I believe Price and his agent realized they have Bargain Bin at their mercy.
For starters. MB stating on live TV that Carey is the only reason they make or dont make the play offs. Take that into the negotiating room.
No other team would give him 10.5 mill for 8 years. 84 million guaranteed.
Maybe elsewhere he is gets 8 mill for 6 years or 7 years. 48 to 56 million.

That's a big difference. $$

I highly doubt Carey thought this team was any better that most of us thought it was.

Now if he does get traded to begin a rebuild here in Montreal ? This mega contract he would not have got from anyone but MB......comes with him.

Petry playing his off side with Weber would be a legit first pair

No, it would be a cheap imitation of Josi-Weber, except loaded with more "uhh" moments from Petry as Petry cannot process the game quickly enough to be a true offensive superstar in this league. You're seduced by Petry's athleticism, but his actual offensive sense and puck skills are lacking. Petry is just a good skater.
