RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has hired Curtis Joseph as its goaltending consultant.

As goaltending consultant, Joseph will work closely with the Hurricanes’ netminder prospects at the American Hockey League (AHL) level in Charlotte. He will also be a resource for the team’s drafted goaltenders in the junior and college ranks, and be available for special assignments as needed.

So sounds like we still have Marcoux (boo) at the NHL level but now we at least have someone at the AHL and prospect level to point them in the right direction.

Cujo!

So Ward and Lack are still up the creek without a paddle with Marcoux, but the other goalies in our system have a chance.

Yeah that just made this team straight up unbeatable in the front office olympics. Andersson was an NHL defenseman himself so you can add him to the 3rd pair.

On a serious note, I imagine his primary focus is going to be making Ned, who is his body type clone, an NHL netminder.

And apparently we hired Dave Hunter some time in the last year or so (wait really?) so we can start building that 4th line with him and Vellucci and his 2 games of NHL experience.

edit: wait, wrong Dave Hunter.

One thing I kind of like about this is that Joseph was trained in the 1980s, small-pad style of goaltending. He wasn't one of those mountains who just plops in front of the net and lets the puck hit him. If they're rolling back the size of goalie pads and forcing to be more agile, this is a guy who should know how to coach to that.

If there was a guy stylistically for Ned specifically to learn from, this is the guy.

It's easy to bash Marcoux, and it's possible that it not only was but still is warranted, but the fact is, to someone's credit, Lack turned things around and Ward was significantly better after the halfway mark of last season. Was Marcoux to blame for the bad start? Seems plausible. Should we believe that the "fix" was to simply ignore his coaching? Possibly, but also consider the possibility that he had the wisdom to see the problems and address them with the 2 goaltenders, and the result was better performance from both.

If he was a source of the fix, continued bagging on him at this point would be nothing more than holding a grudge. Just something to consider.

Doby went to **** after Marcoux was brought in. I just don't have much faith in the guy's track record.

He has a massive nose and I refuse to believe that could be the case.

Cool to add more to the coaching and development staff for the org. Seems to have been a big focus in recent years which is nice.
