Winning tonight, to guarantee no repeat of last year, is probably very important for the mental game moving forward.

Much like Winnipeg with Tkachuk, they aren’t going to fare well if they let this be a Marchand series. Someone’s going to need to step up to him early.

Parallels the team mentality thing. Some situations require an early punch in the nose, figuratively and literally.

Who's out if Hamilton's in? I doubt it's Ed even if want it to be so I guess it will be Haydn.
I don't think it matters too much. I think everyone will get their chance at some point. We have a very good problem as far as that is concerned. I hope we get another one in September.

I’d keep Gardiner in there. Boston’s defense is really tough to beat, and that has a lot to do with their forwards. We’re going to want an actual puckhandler on each pairing, otherwise we better get used to neutral zone turnovers.

I know Gardiner has a bad reputation vs Boston, but he’s not going to redeem that if not given the chance.

Luckily we have prized fighter Justin Williams and “Stevens 2.0” Brady Skjei to set the tone. They’ll have no answer for that toughness.

I’ll take your word for it on the top half.

The 2nd part..... I don’t give a shit about the redemption story, espescially if he doesn’t redeem himself and continues getting exposed by the Bruins.

My guess for the pairings, seeing that he may well start Dougie slowly on the 3rd pairing:

Slavin-Vatanen
Skjei-Edmundson
Gardiner-Hamilton (offense!!!!)
This is the defense I'd start with, though not the pairings. I thought every dman was good in the Rangers series though. If Edmundson hadn't been pretty great in the series and didn't bring an element we don't have, I'd probably sit him in favor of Fleury.

Any chance that the Canes go 7 D if there's any hint of a concern with Hamilton?
I can't see it with the way the fourth line played against the Rangers. But, if they are concerned about his health and still play him, I could see that having an effect on who is the healthy scratch of our defensemen and who plays. I think that scenario would guarantee that Joel plays just for PK alone.

Break up the 4th line after that Rangers series? I think they are more likely to sit Hamilton if they aren't 100% sure about him.

Yeah, that's my thoughts also. I'm not advocating playing 7D, was just wondering if anyone thought that Rod might entertain it.
