Not only would we risk paying more in the 2-way contract (the AHL salary), Helvig also had some legal troubles this year and we may just not want him around.

Now to remember, I had some time back a fruitful discussion with a visiting guy who noted that the thing intenciving a player to NOT take his QO is that the AHL minimum on a two-way contract is kind of horribad and an AHL-level can probably do better when signing a non-QO SPC.

Gotcha, all these rules make my head spin a bit. Though I don't know why you wouldn't just qualify Helvig, he's at least a capable goalie, this Wells dude sucked even in the ECHL

Buddy of mine down in Ft. Myers is not a fan of Helvig's approach to the game and says we would be wise not to waste resources on him.

One wants to believe, but I kind of think that "future considerations" isn't but a speck of goodwill that can be remembered fondly if another trade between same teams happens to come up one day, or it can as well be paid forward among the members of the collective that are the NHL GMs
