As good as Binnington was, Ward was on another level. He was lights out for the 'Canes.

Ward...and he was also a no name guy.

Who, Ward? Not that it matters, but Binnington, if I recall correctly, wasn't even 'the guy' in the AHL before he was called up.

Right, they were both no name guys. Ward was the back up the entire year and had terrible regular season stats before getting thrown in against Montreal.

I don't know how Ward got away with grand larceny. Should be in jail for this.

Ugh we lost that game too.

My favorite saves were:

1. Game 7 second period 1 minute in and Ren Murray takes a phenomenal bounce. Ward stops him cold.
2. Game 1 at the very end stopping Hemsky with time winding down.

This was lowkey one of the best playoff saves of all time. People talk about the Oilers goalie situation changing the series... if that shot goes in and by all rights it should have it would have completely changed the tone of everything that came after.

That's a ridiculous save by a rookie with 5 seconds left in a Finals game. Also Glen Wesley giving the kids at home a lesson in why you stay on your feet as a defenseman.

Binnington was outstanding and the way he stood on his head during that 1st period of game 7 was insane and the reason STL brought home the cup.

That said Ward had the better overall run.

Canes felt like they were destined to win in 2006 after Ward took over and turned into peak Roy, Roloson or no Roloson IMO.

& for one, Carolina was a much better team + had very good depth (at least when it came to their forwards)

Binnington’s incredible regular season run is remembered simultaneously with his playoff run, but the two greatly differed in quality. Ward had the better playoffs for sure.

I dont like how people always said Canes didnt have a good team etc.

They were stacked offensively.

Staal, Williams, Stillman, Whitney, Brind'Amour, Weight, Cole, Recchi and Cullen.

Then you had the two Adams grinders both went 0-0-0 in the playoffs :)

No joke, all these forward were at one point, great offensive talent.

Its just not "shiney" name... bet most of the youngster here doesnt know much about Weight, Whitney and Stillman. TBH I'll take that forward group over last years Blues 10 times outta 10.

Whitney, cole, William's, Staal, brindamor, stillman, weight, Cullen, recchi, ladd

Some were past their prime but that's a solid forward core

This Blues fan is voting for Cam, and it was not a particularly tough choice.

Binner was awesome last year and capped it off with a very good run. His run was better than the stats show IMO. Hard to measure his ability to bounce back and make the big save when he needed to...just doesn't show in his SV% or GAA.

Cam' 06 run was on another level tho.

A young Dan Girardi was watching this game.
