We need to find a young backup that could be a starter to challenge Talbot next year. If Talbot struggles like this next year no way Montoya can cover at all. We need someone to challenge him or our season is already over.
Talbot is going to struggle like this again next year, so we seriously need to get a No.1 . Big Problems

Bernier is a guy I'd get this summer as he's been pretty good this year, younger than Talbot, and has been a starter in the past. A true 1B. I'd keep Montoya as well since LB should be let go and we have nothing else in the AHL. No big deal if he gets claimed on waivers going down after TC.

We have lot of promising young goalies - but they are a few years away - more gifts that keep on giving from the Lowe, MacT and Howson years.

I was hoping that Cam was the real thing from last season. I don't know if the amount of work he faced but I think that some of it was having no one pushing him for the starter's job. We don't need just a backup. We need someone who also wants to be a starter. I know that, in a 31 team league, actual starters may be hard to come by, let alone having 2 on a team. But, that's what this team needs.

Over under in NHL 19, first shot on Talbot goes in?

If that happens, it’ll be the most realistic hockey game ever :sarcasm:

Oilers should go after Rantaa hard. Talbot is on a contract year and they can sell Rantaa on the chance to take over the #1 spot. He has a .929 s%, 2.27 GAA in 45 GP. He is UFA and could at least push Talbot for the #1 spot. Looks like a perfect fit to me.

Like CylconeSweep, I also thought it was 15 but I'll take your word on this list.

Even 14 is utterly ridiculous & I would have to think that's a record that will never, ever be broken. Talbot has been bad this year & nobody that defends his performance can be taken seriously.

BTW, I thought he was just fine last year.

Try to work something out for Grubauer in D.C.

Either options or even pry Schneider since he’s playing second fiddle at the moment. Not sure how cap is though

he was looking great until that Anaheim game in the 3rd period last week

yesterday he served up a crap sandwich

however, I think he's still a starter...but will need a better back-up than Montoya...they need someone who can play 30 games

Montoya should get the next start. You just can't keep giving out starts without any accountability like that though I suspect Todd is still praying to finish strong and win the last 3 in a row to save his job.

I honestly don't think that McLellan truly cares about his job. When we here on a message board are making better team strategy calls months before a professional coach does, it's indicative of a severe problem or self-sabotage.

Wouldn't shock me if they get one of the leafs backups this year for next season.

One of pickard/sparks won't be on the leafs roster next year as they need waivers + can plays 25-30 games at a decent clip

Could say the same about Chiarelli. Message board polls have a better handle on player value than the man paid millions to make the decisions.

Has there been anymore first shot goals or does it seem like this will be the season total?

Jeezus... It is shocking to see it written down, isn't it?!

I'm a goalie myself and I can tell you, having 1) let in plenty of first shots myself, and 2) witnessed about 10 of those (at least), that, IMO, this is happening for three equal reasons:
1) Talbot is the type of goalie who plays to the level of his teammates and expects consistent play from them... when they don't come to play in the first minute and let a soft play develop into a shot, it is going in because Talbot lost concentration due to the poor play in front of him. It only takes a millisecond of "WTF are you doing" before you lose concentration yourself... negative thoughts = goals usually.
2) he's also not always ready to play himself somehow... I think confidence affected him after this happened a few times early in the season... ... the Dallas and StLouis stand out for me
3) Some of those shots were just damn lucky/good screened plays... i.e. legit
