Better depth, sure. But I don't see any current Canucks prospects equivalent to Gaudreau. Not to mention they'd get Monahan a few months after that article.

meh one could argue Demko is just as important a prospect. The Flames are in goaltending hell. I'm just glad they passed on Demko.

its a lazy comparable tbh. its like comparing every bottom feeder to edmonton. i think we have a much better youth pool, and i dont think benning will trade a 1st for a guy like olli jokinen.

You see their list? Yeah... apparently he is (from one source at least - HF)

I personally like the Hockeywriters list that has Gilles as their top prospect. (pre-Shink)
I don't think they would put Shink ahead of Gilles on their list..

from pre season..

The Flames of five years ago versus the Canucks today?..hmm....well we do have Weisbrod...if Jay Feaster isn't far behind, then you could be right.

I don't know if that tells more about Calgary than what we should have gotten back in the trade.

That flames prospect list is no different than the current Canuck list.

Every prospect looks great a year or 2 after they're drafted. Let's come back to this in 3 years when almost all of them aren't in the NHL

The parallel is that the Flames core was getting old and it was time to rebuild but management refused to do anything which meant no playoffs and middling draft picks. Exactly the same situation the Canucks are currently in.

To be fair, they tried to sell this year but failed to execute(Hamhuis) and didn't have interest(Vrbata).

But to add to the similarities, Hamhuis situation was eerily similar to the Mike Cammalleri one with Calgary.

Phaneuf and Kesler were both traded for spare parts which include 3rd rate Dmen that were then resigned to bizarre contracts.

Make my day.
The parallels are good. Our only hope is we outdraft of general mangers incoherence incompetence at actual management. When you look at what this team could have looked like with competent managing adding a lot more quality picks and pickups vs what it is now it is incredibly frustrating. At least fate is conspiring to mitigate some of Benning's incompetence.

Johnny Gaudreau was a fourth-round pick. I would hope Benning could at least out-draft Jay Feaster?
