Hope he gets sent down. No reason to rush him.

There lies the issue. Sending Wright back to the jrs may not benefit him as a player at all and Seattle loses a year of development. That is something the team needs to consider. What is the best interest in the player and his development and sometimes going back to the OHL isn't the best interest in development.

And dragging out this 9 game audition well into November is good for him?

The kid needs to play if he's going to get better.

How is he suppose to gain up to speed vs NHL level speed and physicalness by playing in the OHL which he may not gain any further development.

He needs to hit the gym more than anything. His hockey IQ and hands are NHL level he just needs to get faster and stronger.

Any word if he's getting sent down?

Doubt he gets sent down. Before the season started, their management said Wright will stay in the NHL all season. Wright hasn't really done anything to deserve to be scratched, so this is likely all part of the development plan the management devised.

It's less about deserving to be scratched and more about what has he down to deserve to play? He's an 18 year old who benefited from early physical maturation, so it's not like he checks all the boxes and just needs time to mature.

Not developing in press box,

You have no idea what Seattle will do or non do when it comes to handling his development. None of us do. so he was a healthy scratched 2 games... and yet people on here are screaming its the end of the world. he was never going to play the full 82 game season if he remains on the team beyond 9 games.

I don’t think it’s going to hurt his long term development by giving him his nine, or even letting him get his teeth wet playing 9:00 for a full season.

Being around pros is a good thing for him because it lets him know how much he needs to put in to grow as a player. It also shows him the lifestyle and gives him something to work towards.

Throwing him into the deep end unprepared with full minutes no matter what, also known as the Kotkaniemi, will hurt his development because his bad habits will be excused and allowed to take hold, and then next year when there’s a full year of tape on him he hits a wall.

I don't think you can ruin a prospect if they play 9 NHL games and get sent down.

You can if he ends up not developing futher by spending another year in the OHL. His OHL team is bleh that team coach is meh. Unless he gets traded to a way better OHL team to develop further, its not going to be beneficial to wright by sending him back to the jr majors for another year.

Send him back JUST to send him back is a bad idea.

I'm only referring to the 9 games only. Shane getting 9 games isn't harmful to his development.

If you want a trade in the OHL, you get a trade. It will be the same kind of thing that happened with McTavish last year.

Exactly! Put him on the third line and if he's playing good, give him more ice time. He was the most pro ready prospect of this draft and has nothing left to prove going back to juniors.

This line of thinking that a player “has nothing left to learn in Junior” is so ridiculous.

If he had nothing left to learn, he would’ve been a 1st overall pick.

18-year olds don’t get worse by not playing in the NHL for a year.

His OHL team sucks and their coach is part of the reason why he didn't get 1st overall. Sending him back there isn't a great idea.
