Yeah his shot is pretty good it's just similar to Dach in his draft -1 year. The shot itself wasn't bad but had too much of a pass first mentality. Looks like Lappy but on a good amount of muscle also which will help him.

Having too many c's is not a problem, but MTL will have to look at guys like Mercer, Jarvis, Gunler, Perreault and the like, too. It's a luxury to not have to pick the best C, but just the best Player available.

Dach has always had a menacing shot but was a pass first player. Lapierre not only doesn't use his shot, it's not even good.

I don't think I've seen an occasion where goalies at the QMJHL level are having difficulty handling his shots.

I think it’s really more his pass-first mentality than anything. He’s no Jack Quinn, but his shot has looked fine to me. Don’t expect a 30 goal scorer, but I don’t think 20 is out of reach.

I feel like my thoughts about his shot have been summed up in the last few posts. His shot is not elite but it isn't bad. He certainly has the ability to beat goalies from short to medium range due to his accuracy. If you're taking Lapierre you're banking on the skating, IQ, vision and passing skills. I think whoever takes him will be happy down the road.

With the amount of teams in that 10-15 range needing a centre and the lack of options I could see this guy getting a look if they prefer him to other names like Zary. Holloway, Jarvis, and Mercer likely project as wingers and you could argue with a healthy season Hendrix is right in the conversation with those players

Highlights of Lapierre's 3 pts in the Sep 13 preseason game:

The full game:

How many regular season games will he play before the draft?

Lapierre looks more dynamic than ever in this video. He and Mercer were making beautiful plays.

It strikes me as a really big deal to see Lapierre looking this good, he might jump right back up the lists. I was hoping my Jackets could gamble on him in the 20s but his stock will have jumped back up too much for that.

Chicoutimi has 2 regular season games before the draft.

Lapierre has shown some nice things this preseason. More willingness to shoot, more willingness to go the middle, some nice defensive plays, along with the things he was already great at. But the big question mark for me is, can he be physically engaged while still protecting himself? TBF it's something that's hard to showcase in the preseason, when players are still taking it easy. But he needs to show he can initiate and win physical battles at the junior level, while staying healthy. He also still needs to get stronger. To me it's significantly more important than the power of his shot.

He has high end skill, high end hockey IQ, just a really great playmaker, is strong defensively, and has decent size. Such a well rounded player. I hope the Leafs give him very strong consideration at 15, assuming he hasn’t already been taken. To me, he looks more like a quality NHLer than most guys pegged as mid 1st round picks. His draft year stats aren’t great, but it was a tough year for him battling through concussions.

The concussions do scare me - are they going to continue to be an issue that derails his career? But I love his game. Also, it seems possible that some of them were more vertebral issues than concussions. If the Leafs medical staff give him the thumbs up, he’d be my pick at 15.

I thought he had put on 20 lbs.? He sure looks a good size to me.

He does look stronger. But I'm mostly curious to see how he fares once the reg season starts and the physical play ratchets up. This facet of the game was a weakness for him last year, and he needs to show significant improvements there in order to be a good pro (which is true of most prospects of course, but Lapierre more than most).

He has a tough line to walk, since he needs to both 1) avoid putting himself at risk of further head injuries, and 2) avoid becoming a perimeter player, which was already a criticism of him last year.

The belief is he only had 1 concussion, during the 2018-19 season. This french article from 2 days ago explains his issues with headaches in 2019-20 were due to ''twisted and stuck'' vertebraes . He got treatment from a specialist and it solved the issue.

Un long détour pour Hendrix Lapierre

Antoine Vermette had a similar issue in junior. His career turned out pretty well.

No, it's that no one wants to waste their time arguing with a guy who has already made up his mind on something,
AND WON'T LET IT GO!

"Someone suggest me one of his games that sold you on this prospect, so I can see if my opinion will change"

"YOU'VE MADE YOUR MIND UP!!"

57special, are you alright, dude? I've seen you post things like this in a bunch of prospect threads. They seem like real overreactions based on what is being said or discussed. I know we're in a global pandemic and things aren't easy mentally, so I hope you are feeling alright.

For the record, NP will absolutely change his mind on prospects. We don't always agree but he has a keen eye and has even gone back on prospects he was hot on earlier in the year.

Any time that someone is actively engaging and asking for evidence or footage, that isn't someone who has closed their mind.

That hit that ended his year last year looked like it could have been a 2nd concussion he got rocked by Pelletier I believe.
