This is a tough spot for the bid. The city kept getting leapfrogged by other places as the expansion fees kept climbing hence needing new investors.

Burkle leaving takes significant funding away from the stadium too. There's still time to work something out, likley until the pandemic ends

Not a fun time for the league that now has to find investors in 2 markets. Salt Lake City the other

Wonder if this gives Phoenix the inside track for the 30th MLS franchise? On paper it would make perfect sense: in a large market and having potential owners willing to build a soccer-specific stadium.

Sacramento says they are still getting a team, but this all but kills the project.

Other areas will try for a shot at a potential opening now, but after Charlotte got in at $325 million, the price tag for entry will only get higher especially as COVID wreaked havoc on attendance last year.

Apparently, the Sacramento group hadn't paid any portion of its expansion fee.
