Pete Prisco's NFL Week 10 odds, picks: Packers rebound vs. Panthers, Cowboys cover against Vikings

Buffalo Bills at Cleveland Browns (-3)

The line on this game looks funky. The Browns are favored? Why? They've been bad, but this is a potential season saver for this team as the schedule gets softer. The Bills have feasted on a bad schedule and I think that shows up. The Browns will take it.

Pick: Browns 23, Bills 16

Game Theory: Week 10 win probabilities, score projections

Cynthia Frelund projects Browns 21 Bills 20 with a 55% win probability for Cleveland

prisco has been a big bills backer this year, surprised he took the cleve.

mcdermott is going to have a wide variety of bulletin board material to choose from this week.

Cleveland has one of the worst run defenses in the league. We need to get Singletary involved early and often.

Cleveland is a terribly coached team. Control the clock, and let Singletary do what he does. Play a simple game. The Browns will make their fair share of mistakes.

Stack the box, and force Mayfield to beat us through the air. His o-line is awful, and the coaching is brutal, so it's not uncommon for the line to miss assignments leaving Mayfield open for a freebie hit. Frasier should have a field day with blitz packages. Bend but dont break, and wait for Chubb or Mayfield to turn the ball over.

The Browns do have a good pass rush, so when we do rely on Allen he needs to get the ball out quick. Screens, quick slants and outs, etc...Beasley needs to get the ball a lot.

The Bills are doubted by many. This isnt the best matchup for them, but they can definitely win this through better coaching. The Browns are like the Bills of past; they lose games due an incompetent coach.

This is a game that the Bills would be smart to be more aggressive on defense and blitz more. I am scared that McDermott will always be this way. A ball control, run the clock philosophy doesn't work as well in this NFL. You need to be able to score with big plays often and keep your foot on the gas for all 4 qtrs. For some reason they get a lead and then sit back. When they should be aggressive the whole game.

I believe some of it is execution by the players, but regardless, they need to be better with a lead and especially the 3rd quarters.

Must win game. Win this game and we are 1 game behind New England. New England has a rough next 4 weeks. New England can very well be 10-3 after their next 4 games. We go 3-1 we would be 9-3. Meaning the week 16 matchup could be the fight for 1st.

It would really be wack if we finish 12-4 and have to play all road games in the playoffs barring us making the 3rd round against the 6th seed/WC 2 seed.

Lets go Bills! Hunt and Chubb will probably tear it up but we can shut down Mayfield and make him turn it over. Mayfield has thrown 1 TD or less every game. He has yet to get multiple td passes in a game. If we can put up 24 points and limit Chubb/Hunt to 2 TDs we should be good.

NFL Week 10 game picks: 49ers beat Seahawks; Browns nip Bills

Gregg Rosenthal went 8-6 on his predictions for Week 9, bringing his season record to 84-50-1. How will he fare in Week 10? His picks are below.

Cleveland Browns 21, Buffalo Bills 20

1 p.m. ET (CBS) | FirstEnergy Stadium (Cleveland)

This was the hardest game of the week to pick. Watching Baker Mayfield hesitate before targeting open receivers and failing to connect on routine throws is painful. He's having the rookie season he bypassed last year, struggling to maintain his usual bravado during the first real rough patch he's experienced on the field since his freshman year at Texas Tech. If only he had Josh Allen's fortune. The 6-2 Bills have won a lot of close games against the league's worst teams and carry underlying statistics that suggest they could easily be 2-6 with different circumstances. Buffalo's overall efficiency and estimated wins total both rank just below the Browns, according to Football Outsiders, suggesting that a market correction is coming soon. For the sake of Baker's postgame outfit, here's to it happening this week.

a friendly reminder on tie-breakers

Some have commented If Buffalo wins out they win the division---which is true

the tie breaker rules in a division are

1. head to head
2 division record
3 common game record
4 conference record

The first 2 are self explanatory

the 3rd one on common games

the better common games has a worse non common games

non common gamesBufalo
at Tennesee (W)
Denver

New England
at Houston
Kansas city

NEs are in December. If Buffalo beats Denver to go 2-0 IF NE loses one of those two they have the 3rd tiebreaker.

before their rematch in week 16 Buffalo needs to be tied/ahead with them if NE lost to one of KC/HOU.

If they dont then they need to be just one game behind to take control with a win at NE

I doubt we get past New England. Our schedule gets tough after the Denver game. We got Dal, Bal, Pitt, NE. I'm hoping we go 2-2, but wouldn't be surprised if we lose all of those games.

I agree with your assessment of the game, tho.

Bills offense has got to put points up early here to dissuade Cleveland from running. I'd also like to see McD dial up some blitzes early to hopefully get in Mayfield's head. Idk if it's gotten better recently, but in the first few games, you could tell he was feeling phantom pressure due to his leaky o-line and would roll out to his right even when he had a clean pocket. If they can force Baker into throwing a couple picks and convert them into scores, we should come away with a crucial win.

I think 10-6 probably gets a playoff berth, but Oakland looks legit and getting to 11 wins would be a big help in case they and Indy keep playing well.

1st tiebreaker Head to Head- Since we are considering that Buffalo is tied with New England at the end of the season, Head to Head will almost have to be tied. I don't see Buffalo losing to New England the second time and ending up tied with them.

2nd tiebreaker Division games- Chances are if they are tied, they will both have gone 4-0 vs Dolphins/Jets therefore this tiebreaker will be tied.

3rd tiebreaker is Common games. Essentially the 8 games vs. NFC East and AFC North. Buffalo has lost 1 (Eagles) with 5 left NE has lost 1 (Ravens) with 3 left

There are only 2 games on the schedule that aren't common. Bills vs Titans/Denver and NE vs KC/Hou. If the two teams are tied and it gets to this tiebreaker, the team that has the better record in non-common games must have the worse record in common games. Buffalo is already 1-0 and if they end up tied, the Bills probably wouldn't lose to Denver. If they end up tied and NE loses one of KC/Hou, New England wins this tiebreaker.

Buffalo is in drivers seat for 4th tiebreaker since one of their loses was against the NFC.

McDermott: Allen has developed and his growth is visible

On cleaning up the run defense:
"Corey [Liuget] is a veteran player with a lot of experience, he spent a number of years in San Diego with the Chargers, now LA, obviously. He moved on this year, early in the year to Oakland and things didn't work out there but we signed him just as a good football player that we think might be able to help us and we'll see how the week unfolds and how he does come game day.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

On the team staying healthy throughout the season:
"Terry and Kim [Pegula] both have done a tremendous job of giving us the resources we need to stay out in front and on the cutting edge of trends and a lot of that has to do with their committment with the new facility this past offseason and to get it done in a short amount of time. We feel like we want to be one of the healthiest and happiest teams in and around the NFL.
"That's part of our culture as well, it's what we're driving to become and so our medical staff, our strength and conditioning staff, sports science development team, all have done a heck of a job of communicating and meeting and being collaborative in terms of each and every player's case file, if you will, and making sure that when players come to Buffalo they can become the best versions of themselves."

I wonder if McDermott talks like that around the house? Let's all pitch together and make the best version of that thanksgiving turkey it can be.

Injury report: Browns rule out 2 players vs. Bills, 3 others questionable

The Browns will be without at least two key defensive players Sunday against the Bills.

Defensive end Olivier Vernon and safety/slot corner Eric Murray were ruled out after Friday's practice. Vernon is battling a knee injury he suffered late in last week's loss to the Broncos while Murray will miss a second consecutive game after undergoing knee surgery.

Safety Damarious Randall, who returned to practice this week after missing the past two games with a hamstring injury, is considered questionable. Defensive coordinator Steve Wilks said Thursday he was optimistic he'd have Randall back in the mix at a safety position that has lost some key depth with Murray's injury and Jermaine Whitehead's release.

Tight end Ricky Seals-Jones (knee) and swing tackle Kendall Lamm are also considered questionable. Seals-Jones did not practice this week.

Vernon was playing some of his best football of the season before going down with the injury. Chris Smith and Chad Thomas are among those expected to take on bigger roles during Vernon's absence.
