I got this friend who's addicted to crack (I know, so 1980's) and he's been sober/high for weeks. But I foolishly never lose faith that he'll finally get clean, even though it's a low probability event and the recent past is littered with numerous failures and disappointments.

Kind of like the Sabres and their playoff chances.

I'm assuming they'd need an epic winning streak to even make things interesting. The schedule the next few weeks looks brutal. It only peeves me more that they let the season slip away so early. The games they'd show up and give you hope only to follow it up with 3 or 4 'lack of effort' games still burns.

Sorry you're going through that, man. It's hard to watch someone you care about fall to addiction. I lost one of my best childhood friends to it.

That sucks slip. Hope they are getting help. I've met some folks over the years who have managed to get through that and come out the other side clean.

And yeah, there is a measure of this relationship between fans and this team that seems like being friends with an addict or just abusive. "Honestly, I've changed" and "Look what you made me do" sort of comments underscore plenty of the team's press conferences.

Thanks man and sorry for your loss. Harmful addiction can f*** right off in all its forms -- drugs, alcohol, gambling, porn, etc.

But let's keep it positive. A win tonight coupled with a Flyer's loss and we're 7 points out with a game in hand. Not an insurmountable gap to fill.

Hopefully things work out with him. As a former drug addict, I know how hard it can be to get and stay clean. I haven’t touched anything in 11 years, but it’s a struggle every day to not partake.

It's 65F in South Carolina, and the rainy season is basically over. It's about to get really nice, 65-85F for a few months. Then the oven turns on in June-August.

A win here would probably be the biggest statement yet in this run of good play, but I'm not holding my breath.
