I proposed this in another thread

Buffalo:
Edm 1st 2018 (top 5 protected)
Edm 2nd 2018
B prospect

Edmonton:
Risto

I think the value is there with likely a top 10 pick and a high 2nd. I was using the Dougie Hamilton benchmark for compiling a deal. Am I far off in that comparison?

Why does Buffalo do this? And it's way too early to assume it's a top 10 pick. What if Buffalo pulls the trigger then the Oilers make the playoffs? Too much risk from Sabres perspective.

Risto is a #1 D on a great contract.

If he's available (though he shouldn't be) that offer would be easily out bidden.

The guy you need is Mike Green he's exactly what you need. He'd get McDavid the puck and and reduce Connors workload. He's handling the puck too much and wearing himself out. Sekera can do that but not as well as Green can

I wonder if we would have drafted Risto had Mac T not met Nurse’s Uncle in the can right before the draft?

No it was revealed our scouts wanted Nichushkin at the draft and thought Nurse was relatively close and MacT opted to pick the d-man instead based on need, our scouts rated Nurse higher than Ristolainen. MacT did not make his decision based on who he met in the can, he just thought it a whimsical story to share for some reason.

I think the OP's offer is bad and I disagree with RipsADrive that Ristolainen is a number 1 d-man, he is certainly playing that role in Buffalo, but in terms of quality he just isn't one at the moment. You can make an argument that Risto is a number 2, but I'd argue he's a number 3 offensive specialist who needs some sheltering, if I was going to rate him higher then that he'd need to round out his defensive game a bit more.

Who is the prospect you are talking about? Dont think it is far off but it would hinge on who the specific prospect is. Otherwise Id do 2 1sts and a 2nd. Also forget about any protection - if we are getting picks for Risto we are not allowing protection in them, if you still suck after acquiring him this is your fault.

Nope.
Risto would command a 1st unprotected.

Sorry mate for Ristolainen I'd want an unprotected 1st rounder in 2018.
Our blue line isn't that great and we'd have to go for Boqvist and Dhalin then.

I think the OP offer is more then fair for a D that can't play a lick of D and is only a point specialist

His tool set shows that he can be more then that IMO it's just a matter of getting him in a better development environment, he recently turned 23 I can think of more then a few young d-men who had that same knock, but were able to round out there game in their mid-20's. How many people were writing off Nurse on this board at 22 and look how much he improved from last year to this year.
