BUF’s second line is MoJo - McCann - Kahun.

Pitt gets a PP QB that can carry the third pairing behind Marino and Letang.

I think that is unfair to McCann. Marleau is shot and Hornqvist is way past his prime. When he was given good wingers or played with talent he regularly produced in Pitt.

The issue is he is never going to get that in Pitt. In Buffalo he’s a good stop gap for Cozens and can play defensive minutes and fits in age wise with their core.

I think Sabres fans were happy with the suggestion without the 3rd being included. I think you can just do McCann for Montour straight up and that works for both sides.

He wouldn’t sit in the press box. That honour would go to Asplund or Lazar. Also it moves Johansson to his proper place as a 3LW instead of 2C.

For reference, this is the same coach who decided that Jack Johnson was not scratch-worthy these playoffs, so his roster judgment is more than a little suspect.

Yeah, why is McCann someone who would sit in the pressbox? He was scratched for 1 game because he had a terrible game 2. He also wasn't healthy scratched in the regular season, put up a pace of basically 20 goals and 45 points in the regular season, put up great defensive metrics and performed at a 2C level in the time when at least one of Crosby or Malkin was out for the Penguins.

From when Malkin got hurt on October 5th to when Crosby came back on January 14th, the Penguins only played 4 games with both Crosby and Malkin in the lineup. For every one of those other games, McCann was their 2C. In that time, he put up 13 goals and 26 points in 42 games, which is basically a 25-25 pace over a full season. Combine that with his defensive metrics and he was completely at a 2C level while playing as a 2C.

Reasonable deal. I'd probably do this provided there wasn't a better deal for Montour out there (I liked the Montour for Tierney offer a Sens fan made a while back a bit more).
