The chances of Lohrei, Bussi, Lysell, Poitras and Merkulov not being NHL players are virtually nil.

Been following prospects a long time. I've seen quite a few sure shots never make it. Just look at recent guys like Studnicka, Vaakanainen, JFK, Senyshyn, etc. Those names were considered better prospects at the same age than many on your list. At the same time, sometimes prospects further down the chart turn into stars, like Marchand, Krejci and Lucic.

Oh yeah, I learned my lesson thinking Spooner was the next Savard, then Koko was the next Savard. Seen too many promising prospects over the years fail to make it in the NHL. Doesn’t stop me from getting excited about them but who knows what they’ll turn out to be.

Ok but why select Beecher and Lauko then?

Poitras will be number 1 very shortly.
That's like being a 5th grader and best player on the team when the rest are 3rd graders.

Hmmmmm….. What constitutes an “NHL” player? Has to play one game at least? I’d take it too.

I'd say a player that either plays a complete NHL season (including IR) OR earns a one way NHL contract at any point is an NHL player.

Literally all of those could end up not being NHL players. And I'd bet it won't be more than 2 at best.
I've been on this site for 17 years, and the one thing that doesn't change is how prospects are overvalued, and fans have unrealistic projections regarding how many of the team's prospects will make it.

Out of 20 prospects, 5-6 becoming NHL players is realistic, and 7-8 would be good.

If you take any team's top-five prospects, It is almost a guarantee that 2 of them will bust and more likely 3 unless they had many first round picks.

No kidding. Haven't we been through this enough times to know by now. Prospects are just that, they are something when they are something. It's such a thin line. Sadly most prospects are busts.

Locmelis may be my #1 right now. He continues to contribute on the international stage for a Latvian team that is making some noise. Hopefully he can turn into a solid middle 6 guy.

Lysell seems like a high bust-potential prospect. He's not there yet but he's not a lock to pan out the way we all hope.

Lorhei is promising but assuming will take some time to adjust to the pro game.

I haven't followed Poitras at all but given how high everyone in this thread seems to be I oughta go take a look.

Sweeney got Kevan Miller, Krug as college UFA and point guy on Clifton

All three players picked up I wanted for my SIm team in drafts and pretty familiar with all

I’ll be stunned if he doesn’t hit big on one of these guys
