and yet none of them are on A plus 60 team like the Capitals........the Islanders have given up the most goals in the NHL so you'd expect them to be negative. same with Arizona.

the caps however have the best differential in the entire league. so you would expect them to be positive, and not have the worst plus minus on the entire team like orpik does.

you guys absolutely refuse to use even a modicum of common sense. do you honestly think other fans are buying these excuses. Its not like they cant see Orpik cant keep up any longer? come on, youre acting like we're all blind. I assure you they are not

no it isnt its especially valuable when an entire team is plus 60 and one guy alone is minus 11

why is he so negative when most others on the same team are positive

im here because as long as some of you keep lying, somebody has to stand up for the truth
Does Orpik face the toughest competition? Does he get deployed with the least favorable zone starts? If he's usually out there against the other team's best, when the face-off is in his own zone, that would probably explain some of it, no?

Capitals shed Orpik to give them cap breathing room to sign Carlson.

Coyotes get a serviceable player and save actual dollars?(Bolland's actual salaries are higher but idk how it works with insurance paying any or all parts of it) and Cap floor help.

Could you see a deal like this happening this summer?

Credit to @Kaibur for proposing it.

No, this isn't happening. Bolland was traded to the Arizona because he doesn't cost them any money. Insurance pays for his salary. Arizona does not help reaching the cap floor, and if they did, they certainly could sign a more serviceable player than Orpik at 5.5m.

insurance pays 90% of the salary

problem with taking Bolands cap hit is even though he goes on LTIR caps would have be under the cap by day 1 onte next nhl season and then they could put Bolland on LTIR
This right here is the point I think everyone is missing. Bolland still carries a Cap Hit for accounting purposes prior to the start of the season which is precisely when the Caps would need the Cap Space. Having Bolland would be just as good as having Orpik on Judgement Day (when you have to be Cap Compliant and there is no LTIR benefit on that day). No one is going to take Bollands contract for anything during the offseason. To think that the Capitals would give a decent pick for the privilege is beyond fanciful.

Carlson and Backstrom are also in the negatives. What a couple of bums. Caps should try to get rid of all 3.

Bring in Patrick Nemeth, Matt Grzelcyk, and Radek Faksa to replace them. Combined +73. That's almost a difference of +100.

With those negative losers out of the way and with these positive stars in the lineup the Caps easily win the Cup next year

The statement of having Bolland on your roster on opening day is not true. Teams are not punished for having players on LTIR. Look at the Leafs last October, Horton and Lupul. 9.5m was not on the opening day roster. The reason some teams may want to put a LTIR on the opening day roster , so it allows Performance Bonuses to be paid that season instead of delaying it to the following season. Teams have to cap compliant on opening day sure....but injured players can still be on LTIR or even IR and not affect a teams spending for replacement players.
