Capitals shed Orpik to give them cap breathing room to sign Carlson.

Coyotes get a serviceable player and save actual dollars?(Bolland's actual salaries are higher but idk how it works with insurance paying any or all parts of it) and Cap floor help.

Could you see a deal like this happening this summer?

Credit to @Kaibur for proposing it.

"A league source told Arizona Sports last week that the Coyotes would put Bolland on long-term injured reserve after training camp, thereby reducing their salary commitment to him from $5.5 million to $1.1 million this season, with insurance picking up the rest."

'Yotes Notes: Dave Bolland faces long road back to NHL

Thanks. So you're right, that WSH pick is probably gonna have to be higher.

Orpik has been a train wreck this year and the coyotes gave up a 7th overall to try an win games last draft why do this? What kind of message does it send to ticket buyers and to OEL especially?

Being the NHL dumping ground for bad contracts is not something Chayka should aspire to.

This needs a third team. Someone who wants Orpik with 50% retained. Maybe the Islanders? They’ve got a bunch of extra picks.

Arizona eating 50% on Orpik is 2.25m in real dollars and they shed 1.1m in real dollars by dumping Bollard.

Trade #1
To ARI: Orpik+’18WSH1st
To WSH: Bolland (LTIR)

Trade #2
To NYI: Orpik(50%)
To ARI: ‘18NYI3rd

Cap is going up by at least 3 million, carlson makes just under 4 mil. Add the 3 mil to carlson and its easy

Uh no. Hes fine on the third pair, great pk and blocking shots and clearing the net. Unless your gonna say every big defender is worthless?
Then why is he -11 by far the worst on The Capitals who are +60 overall and why is his corsi, the worst on the team? He can't skate anymore, he's become a very expensive pylon

This is essentially what I posted in the Carlsson thread from a Canucks POV. Take on Orpik for a 2nd without any cap dump going back and then flip Orpik to someone who wants a veteran defenceman at 50% retention for another pick. No one wants to pickup Orpik to keep him at his current cap hit.

Washington keeps orpik. One year of orpik is nothing, he is still serviceable.

They can easily sign carlson and keep orpik

no it isnt its especially valuable when an entire team is plus 60 and one guy alone is minus 11

why is he so negative when most others on the same team are positive

im here because as long as some of you keep lying, somebody has to stand up for the truth

How noble of you. And how ironic it is you calling others negative when you ruin every thread you're in.
