Hell, just make that played on a dynasty and the HoF wouldn't be in question. Had Philly actually been able to seal the deal vs Detroit the argument for him getting in wouldn't get nearly the negative reaction it does.

Isn't Toews a top 10 player in the game today? Was Brind'Amour ever really at that level?

The thing that hurts Rod is his down years. His good years are as good as or better than Toews. But he also has a bunch of less than stellar years. Toews seems to be rock steady in terms of consistency.

And playing on that Philly team wasn't exactly a talent wasteland.

Brind'Amour has five seasons that when era-adjusted come out to over 80 points.

Toews has topped 80 points, never.

Not gonna lie, I'm more impressed watching Toews than I was watching Brindy. I mean I love the guy, wear his jersey, have him in my avatar. But Toews is all over the ice, doing everything night in and night out as one of the main cornerstones of a fantastic team.

You can't just adjust one guy and not adjust the other...

Toews' best 3 adjusted seasons: 92, 82, 76
Rod's best 3 adjusted seasons: 88, 85, 84

Yeah, I had to recuse myself from this one because of my bias. Two of probably my favorite top 5 players of all time (maybe top 7 :))

Brind'amour gets underrated because he went from playing second fiddle to Lindros in Philly to Carolina.

Toews gets overrated for several reasons.

I'd go with Toews, but if we're taking team context out of it, it's a little, slightly bitter pill to swallow if I see Toews in the hall, but not Brind'amour.

They are somewhat different players. I have to go Toews, but it's very close. I think Toews has better hands and is more elusive. Brind'Amour is better on the boards. I'd trust Brindy even more on defense.

Just curious: would you rather have right now (ignore the concussions in the past) Patrice Bergeron or Johnny Toews? I think I'd go Toews there too.

i would go with toews

era adjusting one but not the other is silly, especially given the lack of scoring the last several years.

but i like brind'amour better. because when he won the stanley cup it was for the hurricanes not the blackhawks.

Toews but it's much closer than most would admit.

Bergeron is RIGHT there.
