Useless move.

Useless post

Jim's not happy if he doesn't have a Devils signing to complain about.

Seriously, Jim, we've already got rookies/young players occupying 2nd line center and 3rd line center, plus a couple wings. We were never going into the season with 1st or 2nd year players occupying the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th line center positions.

I doubt anyone has more of an inside edge on the 4th line LW than Wood.
Maybe, but I'm not convinced Wood starts in the NHL. I still think he could use some seasoning in the AHL to round out his offensive game and work on his finesse. It's probably one of the two of them, though.

The Josefson haters should like this signing. He essentially replaces Josefson.

Meh, dont really care about this, but at least it's a 2nd player on the team that can win a faceoff.

Useless move.

He is unquestionably an upgrade in the bottom 6.

Everyone wanted us to be a bit tougher. Boyle is a great fit in that respect. He'll score the odd goal or two and is a reliable option. Unlike failed projects like Josefson.

We're not rolling 4-6 rookies on the team all year long. It's short term with only slight overpay $ wise. He's also flippable at some point.

Like I posted in the other thread in the top nine you have six definites (Hall, Zajac, Henrique, Zacha, Hischier, Palmieri) and question marks incluing at 2RW. You'll have at LEAST one of those question marks probably being filled by McLeod/Quenneville, maybe even two of them. You'll have one of the kids at 4LW. That's at least 4-6 kids in the lineup with most of them having to earn a spot. If you literally have all kids not having to compete for a spot you become the Oilers of five years ago.

Like this a lot. Only 2 years and he is a solid 4C. Got to watch him a lot on the Leafs this past season.

Just what we needed IMO. Veteran, toughness and good in the face off circle.

4th line C a useless move? Lets some of the young guys marinate in the AHL. There will be plenty of youth up and down the forward lines.

Yup. A lottery team 4th line should be a audition line, a opportunity for young players to play 7 to 10 minutes a night in protected situations.

Not to mention when injuries hit, which everyone forgets about in the off-season, plenty of guys from Binghamton will get a chance again.

Why not have at least one quality veteran player that makes their job easier?

I mean we saw how poorly the Coleman, Pietila, and Rooney experiments went last year. Our fourth line kept getting caved in and we spent the next few lines trying to get out of it.

To have that logic, you have to be completely okay with the Devils being a cellar team again this year, with a bottom-five NHL record.

This team is already in full rebuilding mode and is not going to be a playoff team with or without Brian Boyle.

It all comes down to how much "pain" do you want to swallow. If you're okay with "lots" of pain this year, than your position is logical, if you're not okay with one of the worst NHL records, then it's illogical.

And they WILL get that opportunity. Its not something to do from day one unless they play themselves onto the team, which most of them won't.

We are going to be a cellar team this season. It's not even a maybe...we are so far behind 5 or 6 teams in our own division it's not even worth having the conversation.
