Anyone been watching this guy play during this season? He's been avering 17:51 of ice time and has collected 5 points in 6 games. However, I can't find any information of him from Chicago pages in this site. Neither discussion forum has any word of his performance. He's still eligible for calder, but should he even be included in speculations?

He are his stats from hockeydb.

I think this guy has caught everyone by surprise. I'm shocked to see him putting up better numbers than the more highly-touted players like Ruutu and Vorobiev. Definitely a pleasant suprise for Hawks fans.

pleasent suprise so far, and god knows we need them. He was a good scorer in junior, and no one thought he could replicate it in the big's,

Only problem is if Zhamnov never got hurt this thread wouldn't be here. He was in the minors and got called up after Zhamnov went out. He didn't make the team. He will end up back there when he comes back.

He was a big time scorer in Junior but was always said to be "too small". Sure proved alot fo people wrong. Always good to see guys like that making the show!

I had never even heard of him until I kept seeing his name in the box scores. Hope he keeps it up.

Had the pleasure of...

watching Mr. McLean play a lot of hockey in the WHL.

He lacks the obvious size of a prototypical NHL'er, lacks the extra step some of the more flashy players have and does not have the intimidating power game that most scouts love to see.

What Brett McLean has always had was an extremely good economy of motion paired with great hockey sense.

Brett does so many little things well. He has excellent situational awareness at all times, playing well with or without the puck. I always enjoyed watching him play hockey, as I admired his guile.

I am pleasantly suprised along with a lot of people he has been able to elevate his game beyond the expected.

The NHL needs more players like him; players who play with guile and intelligence, less with clutch and grab.

I hope he proves me wrong... but he seems to be a young Peter White.

To prosper, he'll need to play on the top two lines. But he doesn't really show that he has top two line skills. He's a head and hands player(which ain't necessarily bad), and those guys have to have a lot of intangebles to stick in the bigs.

At 5 on 5 he hasn't done much of anything. So just like I wouldn't go counting out Ruutu/Vorobiev/Radulov... I woudlnt' be pencilling in McLean for any long stints just yet.

Btw, I'm not dogging the guy. He does a lot of nice things out on the ice. He works hard, is pretty good on faceoffs, and is willing to pay the price to score. There just isn't a lot of "there", there... if you know what I mean. He has a decent wrister, with nice accuracy and that's his biggest asset because he can bury his chances.

LIke I said, I hope he proves me wrong- we need all the help we can get right now.
