No way.

Counter:
Bobby Ryan for Seabrook at 50%

Melnyk saves several million real dollars this way and has Seabrook count towards the cap for a longer period of time.

Lol Ryan after this year has 2 more seasons left, how many does Seabrook have again???

win/win

Blackhawks get out of a bad contract after two more seasons but pay a lot more in real dollars.
Melnyk pays less in real dollars and spreads it out over more seasons which also helps him hit the cap floor more easily over that span.

With EM running the team its the only way it makes sense...Lol any other team would just ride out Ryan,s contract

Add in the NMC and a expansion draft coming up and Ottawa could lose a player by having to protect Seabrook, whereas Ryan doesnt have that in his NTC and can be left unprotected ...Makes this deal even more unlikely to happen

Cant deny that's using Melnyk knowledge quite well.

You forgot the complimentary pick Dorion always gives out though

Huh? As of today:

Ryan owed $19.67m
Seabrook owed $23.9m

We don't have the cap space to retain 50% of Seabs and have Ryan on the books.

Does Ottawa have an extra protection slot where they can add Seabrook and not have to leave any valuable players exposed?

Melnyk cant afford Seabrook's signing bonuses.
It would actually be a wash

Bobby gets his signing bonus at the end of the season.
Owed $2M for this season, $2M next and $2M after for $6M owed.

Seabrook at 50% would be
$0 this season
$2M July 1st, 2020
$1M July 1st, 2021
$2M July 1st, 2022
$1M July 1st, 2023

This.

retaining 50% on seabrook AND taking Ryan at 100% makes no sense for Chicago. They might as well keep him and figure it out later.

that takes Chicago from having Seabrook at $6.8 mil cap hit to Bobby Ryan at essentially a $10.7 mil cap hit. whats the point? and dont say to shave off the last couple years, the hawks arent making that move today to save two years of seabrook down the line, they would be doing it to free up his cap space now, not pile on top of it

musto come on man, no one is giving up a 2020 first with this upcoming draft class, especially when the hawks are playing the way they are
this as well. Chicago shouldnt turn into Ottawa 2.0 giving away a conditional and possibly unprotected 1st right now with Chicago playing as bad as they are. The 2020 1st right now, as it stands today, is probably equal in value to boqvist or dach knowing its going to stand as a top 5 or better pick

In theory the Hawks could trade Seabrook at 50% and buy out Bobby Ryan after the season. If they did that, the cap hit would be

2020/21 - $7,020,833
2021/22 - $7,020,833
2022/23 - $5,270,833
2023/24 - $5,270,833

It would be a higher cap hit of $145,833 for the first 2 seasons but save $1,604,167 each season after that.

If you straight up bought out Seabrook it would be like this

2020/21 - $6,583,333
2021/22 - $3,583,333
2022/23 - $6,583,333
2023/24 - $5,083,333
2024/25 - $708,333
2025/26 - $708,333
2026/27 - $708,333
2027/28 - $708,333

Not saying you should or have to trade or buy out or anything.
Just giving numbers.

I completely agree that the hawks should not be giving up the 2020 first

at the same time their needs to be a hell of an add to seabrook for Ottawa to consider it and that is even with Ottawa sending back Ryan. That says a lot and that is not a sentence I thought I would type
