Who should have gone 2nd? why?

compare the three future stars... and argue for the player you'd rather have. Who do they each compare to in the nhl? Who would you rather have in your franchise with?

I'm one of the few that actually think that Brule will be better than both, and I actually do. I think he's a steal at #6, and will turn out to be the 2nd best player drafted in 2005.

Too early to judge. Burke and the Ducks scouts liked Ryan the best so they picked him. I'm not a fan of Pouliot's style of play, Brule could be the best of the three but we'll see how his size works in the NHL. For now Ryan is the one I would pick, though I'm biased.

If I had to pick. I would say Brule. He is small. But he has the speed and is pretty strong with the puck. And I think he landed in the best place.

If they all fulfill their potential...Ryan, because elite power forwards are a rare commodity.

well instead of making another comparison thread of 'consensus top 6" players, i'll just add it on here and ask who youd rather have, kopitar or pouloit?

Ryan (safest pick)
Pouliuot (could end up being the best of the bunch)
Brule (besides the size and over aggresivenes, I have a huge problem with his me first attitude. I wonder, how he'll handle the situation in Columbus where Nash and Zherdev are more in the spotlight, when he'll enter the NHL.)

Brule will be amazing, Pouliot also has the potential to be amazing... Ryan I am the least sure on. I saw both Pouliot and Ryan a few times this year. If Ryan could skate better I'd like him alot...

Agreed... going into this season people were saying he was going to possibly upseat Crosby for the first spot. I was never one who believed this, but I did think he would stay in the number 2 spot unless a team wanted a D man like Johnson.

It surprised me how he slipped to 6th but hey it really doesn't matter what number your selected at, it matters how many points your putting on the board and how many championships you end your career with and I feel that Brule may have a great quantity of both

Brule has always had a team first attitude. Where do you get off on making statements of this kind about Brule. He will handle the situation in Columbus by helping his new Columbus team mates. Funny though how on one hand you criticize him and next you concede that he will be playing in the NHL with Nash and Zherdev. Not a bad spot to be in don't you think? Playing in the NHL is what Brule's goal is. How you get there doesn't matter. It's what you do when you get there that matters. Trust me GB will be just fine.

Ryans numbers speak for themselves.
If skating ability was so important, everyone on these boards would have picked the Courtnall brothers over guys like Gretzky, Lemieux, Andreychuk and Robitaille who were all considered poor skaters...
Ryan is a fanatic about conditioning and will only improve...I like the LeClair comparison, he won't fight much, but won't back down...and can carry three guys on his back to the net.

I like the LeClair comparison as well, especially as Ryan gets older and stronger. LeClair had/has an awkward skating style, but that never stopped him.

I would have taken Brule.

I still think that there is an outside chance that he could develop into a player very comparable to Crosby just because of the fact that Crosby going to Pittsburgh where he will always be compared to Lemieux is one of the worst places for him to go other than to a canadaian team.

as for the comparison part i would put Brule vs. Crosby in 5 years as comparable to Sundin vs. Forsberg....where most would take Forsberg but you wouldn't go wrong with taking Sundin Either.

His on ice play does not suggest he is a team first player. He looks selfish with the puck and selfish with his actions. I agree that he'll be fine in the NHL, but his selfish play is one of the knocks on him. I also don't think he'll play with Nash and Zherdev regularly (maybe on the powerplay); that combo needs an all around pass first playmaking centre with good defensive abilities, which Brule isn't. IMO, Brule would make a better winger than centre, and will probably eventually be converted to wing.

I'd have taken Pouliot then Brule then Ryan. Pouliot's combination of size skill and skating make me drool. Ryan's skating scares me away, although maybe if I saw him more I'd become comfortable enough with the rest of his tools to ignore his poor skating.
