I completely agree with the decision. He hasn't played in weeks and he would probably look rusty if we just threw him into an NHL game.

For those of you wondering, he can spend two weeks max with Utica on the conditioning stint (Utica plays 6 games over the next 14 days). None of these conditioning assignment games will count towards his "9 games".

Plus management will want to get an accurate of a look possible with his nine games. Wouldn't be advantageous for either party for him to spend the first half of his nine game stint shaking off rust. Blowing off a year of his ELC is no small decision.

If they don't count against the 9 games, keep him there as long as possible. Getting an extra 6 pro games experience is ideal for Horvat's development. Will give the Canucks more information to make the right decision as well.

Does Horvat still have CHL eligibility? This will probably get blocked if he does, Grigorenko was in the same situation last year, and the NHL blocked the conditioning stint because of his CHL eligibility still

He still has CHL eligibility, but Brayden Schenn was allowed to be sent to the AHL on a conditioning stint back in 2010. He played 8 games with the Kings, got injured, and played 7 more games in the AHL before being sent back to the WHL.

But wasn't there something fishy with Grigorenko? Wasn't he not actually injured or something?

Yeah, I stand corrected. I just looked the case back up and the NHL didn't buy the "injury."

Grigorenko was blocked because he was not recovering from an injury, soreness or any kind of layoff. Buffalo assigned him for conditioning because the Quebec Remparts already had 2 imports so a trade was needed for him to return to the CHL. Buffalo had described his condition as "general soreness".

The bigger question is who sits in Utica to make room for Bo at the C position?

Awesome news. Gives him a few games to get used to a slightly higher level before he has to show his chops and earn a permanent spot on the roster.

Regarding the Grigorenko situation, it's not the same. Horvat actually was injured, so can go on a conditioning stint. Grigorenko was a healthy scratch a few times then they tried to send him down to get icetime.

Smart. You can't just throw a teenage rookie into an NHL game after a couple weeks off. Terrible way for him to kick off his career and you're not going to get a great read on him with the rust that comes with that.

Plus, it conveniently extends the look you can get at Horvat in "Pro Games". If he spends ~2 weeks in Utica, then gets his 9 games in with Vancouver, it's nearly time to send him off to the WJC. Won't have to spend a lot of time in the OHL even if he does end up sent back. Kind of a disjointed season for Horvat though if that's the route it all goes.

Kid needs to play with gusto, separate himself from the forward prospect pack and make the big club sooner than later. Could get crowded at centre in Utica next year with Cassels moving up and maybe Fox graduating from ECL.

For all the talk about our depth, the 4th line has been leeching even strength goals as much as ever. Odd, since they do seem to spend more time in the opposing zone than I remember. Hope it's not just the extra minutes. The middle six ain't so hot either. Club needs young blood in the worst way.

Gilman's hands are all over this. Though really this is great for Horvat as he gets 6 games in before getting his 9 in with the Canucks. Excited to see how turns out.

They're getting a long look at Bo. Can't say he didn't have the oppurtunity to make the team if he doesn't stick (like many did with Hodgson).

Also it will be good to see how Horvat directly compares with Gaunce in a series of games. Gaunce IMO is a bit of a dark horse, and if he turns out at this stage to be a better pro player than Horvat (after a few games to get Horvat's rust out), that could be useful for management to know. It's too bad that centre is crowded in Utica and that Gaunce hasn't played there yet.

Speaking of which, who sits at centre in Utica when Horvat plays?

Agreed I'd rather have Gaunce play center considering the big club isn't doing great in the faceoffs so far this year why not have him in his natural position down in Utica?

that's the problem when you signed two veteran centers in Dustin Jeffrey and Cal O'Reilly
