I'm still going for Tarasenko at #1. I watched quite a bit of his play in Russia, and he has a lot more to his game that what he's shown so far here. The adaptation period might be longer than commonly thought, but I still think his ceiling is the highest of all the youngsters.

I'm more interested in who will be this year's Jaskin. Who will be the player that we think is out of the top 10 or even top 15 that makes a big jump.

Carrier is my bet.

When I think of the jaskin effect.... I think of someone who was drafted and fell off the map. And then takes off.

I am torn between schmaltz who got better as the year went on, but didnt have as big of an impact on the score card. And Kurker - I almost have to go with Kurker really did very little last year.

Yep..I think kurker will have a breakout year production wise.

As for the poll. I went with vt. If e works on his conditioning this year, I think he will look like the player who was nearly at a point per game prior to his injury. Not the giy who was scratched.

We should close this poll and move on to the next one ASAP. Tarasenko has run away with the vote.

The biggest question I have is where Vanelli will go on this list. The kid sounds like one heck of skater and I'm wondering if he could end up being like another Bouwmeester

Kurker has the tools and he's not a stupid player. He mostly was a victim of his team having set veteran lines and he had nobody to play with and didn't get a lot of minutes. Watching him, he plays aggressively, uses his body, has some speed, appears to have a good shot, and he supports puck battles well. Opportunity isn't the only thing missing (consistency is an issue), but it's probably the biggest thing.

I don't know if he'll be able to leapfrog guys like Binnington, Lundstrom, and Carrier and end up in Jaskin's range, but I definitely agree that Kurker has a good chance to move quickly from forgotten to a player who everyone sees as clear NHL talent.

Jaskin never fell off my map. ;) I had him ranked in my personal top 6 at the bottom of my second tier after the draft, which I believe can be verified by the search function, and he never slid any lower.

In the interest of full disclosure, my tiered top 21 was:
Tarasenko
Schwartz
Rattie
------
Cole
Grachev
Jaskin
------
Allen
McRae
Edmundson
------
Cundari
Wannstrom
Ponich
Porter
Della Rovere
Bishop
Reaves
Cracknell
Fairchild
Beach
Beukeboom
Hakanpaa

Strickland did the Blues writeup for HF that year. As a comparison, his (and thus HF's) top 20 was:
Tarasenko
Schwartz
Allen
Cole
McRae
Ponich
Lehtera
Junland
Rattie
Jaskin
Grachev
Della Rovere
Beach
Wannstrom
Fairchild
Hakanpaa
Edmundson
Cundari
Shields
Binnington
