It has to be Backes. He plays the hardest minutes and performs the best defensively throughout the year.

Schwartz has been good, so I understand the votes. But, his games through out the year lacked that next tier defensively. Sure he is a turnover magnet, but his defensive positioning has been up and down.

Had Goc played more with the team he might get a scoche more attention for the award. His PK work has been phenomenal.

Has to be Backes. He plays tonnes of minutes against the opponents' best scorers, and does well at limiting their scoring. Stastny, Steen, Goc and Schwartz are good, but not nearly as good as Backes.
