What move(s) does AA need to make to get this team into the playoffs?
Personally I'd love for them to get Aaron Hill back to play second and move Lawrie back to 3B when he is healthy. Also the team needs a couple of pitchers but without trading Sanchez, so maybe guys like Soria or Neise

Tulowitzki HR Derby captain. Romero has the yips. Mike Trout All-Star MVP. Chad Jenkins is bullpen fodder. Deck McGuire DFAd. Chris Sale All-Star. Rios and Hill basically the best players drafted and developed in the last 15 years.

Leafs drafting is bad but gets ragged on. Time for this to be looked into as a big root of the issue.

I say no moves. Let the year slide. Keep our young players at this point. I'm usually all about buying. Not now. After watching the past month and half.

Many Jays fans have been talking and criticizing the Jays drafting/developing forever.

Lind should be thrown in there.

That same draft that McGuire was selected in yielded Sanchez, Syndergaard, Nolin and Pompey.

And let's be serious, the NHL draft is very different than the MLB draft.

Not to mention the Jays have at least produced some players who became regulars which automatically makes them better then the Leafs. Who was the last Halladay the leafs had that was home grown?

Alex Rios, Dustin McGowan, Brett Cecil, Brandon League, Shaun Marcum, Adam Lind, Casey Janssen, Marc Rzepcynski, Aaron Loup, Yan Gomes...off the top of my head.

Ryan Borucki: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 Ks.

The guy looks really polished in rookie ball after undergoing TJ surgery last year. 4 walks and 21 Ks through 24.1 innings.

This x100. Cherry-picking at its finest. How many teams passed on Trout that draft? Even the Angels picked someone else first. The MLB draft is such a crapshoot, and the bust rate is SOO much higher than any other major sport, even in the top 10. Let's be real here.

There is most definitely an issue with the drafting and developing of position players, IMO. I think the pitching drafting/developing is good though.

We'll I guess it's a good thing we draft pitching with the highest priority

Halladay was the 90s. Jays did a great job in the 90s. Green, Stewart, Koch, Halladay, Carpenter, Wells, Rios, Michael Young (sigh). A lot of those guys mentioned were mainstays with the Jays after their glory years, then you add Delgado who was signed (though that was the 80s).

Lind, Stroman, Hutch, Janssen, McGowan, Cecil and probably a couple more I'm forgetting, but basically the core of the team is all trades and free agents.

Yes, they were great trades (some better than others), pickups, signings or whatever. And its good to be successful in those areas. But if they could develop a bit more of their own talent, that would help a lot.

When was the last time there was high excitement for a big prospect? (Lawrie and Gose don't count). Sanchez is one. But really, no one for me since Wells, Rios and Hill. Snider maybe.

I know having a haul like the 09 Cardinals (Miller, Kelly, Carpenter, Rosenthal, Adams) is rare, but it would be nice to pluck and/or develop a stud here and there.

Alex Anthopoulos: Blue Jays are looking for short-term help

http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/toronto-blue-jays-mlb-trade-deadline-rumours-alex-anthopoulos/

First, some good news of sort for those who believe it’s all about breaking through the window of opportunity with which the American League East seems to be teasing the Blue Jays. Anthopoulos is quick to deflect suggestions that his focus leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline needs to at least partly centre on finding replacements for pending free agent outfielders Melky Cabrera and Colby Rasmus, or that Jose Reyes may need to find a new position in the next two years, or even that his team is short an infielder for 2015.

“No doubt,†Anthopoulos responded when asked if the short-term was his immediate focus over to the long-term.

The bad news? While Anthopoulos refuses to walk through a list of potential trade targets or comment on specific rumours, the GM leaves the distinct impression that his chances of pulling off a blockbuster, division-altering deal are, well, slim. Further – and this could just be him talking in full ninja speak – Anthopoulos does little to downplay the notion that the trade market in general is a lot less sexy than a lot of us have made it out to be.

It’s more Irish pub than pick-up joint; less O’Chez and more O’Shea’s.

Anthopoulos readily admits that he might do much of his heavy lifting after July 31, when players are placed on waivers. It may make for slim pickings before July 31, but the list of players acquired in the past two seasons after Aug. 1 is interesting. A year ago Alex Rios went to the Texas Rangers from the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 9 while John Axford, Michael Morse and Jason Kubel moved to playoff contending teams on Aug. 30.

The immediate concern for Anthopoulos is the bullpen, which has gone from being an area of anticipated strength to a walk-issuing, gas-can toting, demolition squad. The bridge to Casey Janssen looks a lot like the Gardiner Expressway these days, which is why on Thursday the Blue Jays moved Aaron Sanchez, the organization’s gilt-edged pitching prospect, to the bullpen in triple-A Buffalo.

“He’s in the bullpen with designs of being brought up,†said Anthopoulos.

It is, arguably, the only area of need that can be addressed internally and Daniel Norris might not be that far away either – although Anthopoulos made clear that he will go to triple-A before pitching in Toronto.

What about some offensive help against left-handed pitching? A veteran arm? All of the things that the Blue Jays would need even if Edwin Encarnacion, Brett Lawrie or Adam Lind weren’t hurt? That’s going to be the focus of whatever external hunt takes place.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/report-blue-jays-checked-in-on-soriano/

The Toronto Blue Jays have checked in on free agent Alfonso Soriano to discuss the possibility of a deal, Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi confirmed Thursday.

Soriano, who recently became a free agent after being released by the New York Yankees, would be a potential stopgap solution in Toronto, but he appears to be weighing his options for now. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports first reported that the Blue Jays checked in on Soriano.

The 38-year-old Soriano struggled in New York this year, batting just .221/.244/.367 with six home runs in 238 plate appearance. However, he hit 34 home runs in 2013 and 32 home runs in 2012, so his power stroke was recently in fine form.

If Soriano signs with another team, the signing team would pay a pro-rated portion of the MLB minimum salary with the Yankees paying the remainder of his $18 million salary.
