So Calgary needs Tavares because they need a #1 center so they trade their poor mans #1 in Monahan who would "be a great #1 center for the Leafs" if he isn't good enough for Calgary why would he be a great one for Toronto? How about Toronto keeps their vastly superior centers and laugh at Calgary's lack of them.

The Flames need a #1 center, yet that center who is apparently not good enough to be the Flames #1 is going to be great #1 for Toronto.

Mods need to do a better job cleaning this garbage up and only allow legit rumors to be discussed.

It's a rare thing when somebody puts in a proposal where both fan bases are in complete agreement how one sided it is. Even the bad offers usually have some homers on here defending them, but not this one which in itself is pretty telling. That's when you know your proposal is a special kind of awful. I did like the moving Tavares part.....got stuck on the Monahan becoming the Leafs #1 C unless they 100% wanted the other guy to be leave following his contract (I believe he will anyway) Monahan would make a great #2 C

He would be a great upgrade for a team that has to win now. Gio has at least a few years left in his prime. Flames need a #1 center. There is a clear and obvious trade that would help both clubs.

Gio and Monahan to Toronto for Tavares and Nylander.

1) This allows the Flames to re-sign Brodie and keep Hanifin while getting younger. Plus with the Chris Tanev signing, Gio is not needed as much, he can easily be replaced by committee and give the C to Tavares. Then the Flames can dump Gaudreau for prospects.

Flames then become a much better team down the middle - Tavares, Backlund, Bennet, Ryan.

2) The leafs can just about get both Gio and Monahan for the price of Tavares. Dump Nylander and it frees up 9M. Monahan would be a great #1 centre for them and having both him and Gio would greatly boost their defensive structure.

This is absolutely terrible. Not so much in trying to balance respective values - I won't even bother engaging in that thought exercise - but the proposal displays a complete lack of knowledge of existing reality. About Nylander. Tavares. About Dubas and everything he has said about wanting to win with the current core. There is less than zero percent that this may happen at this point in time.

Really bad. Value definitely favours Calgary, but Calgary's D looks awful without Gio, and we'd have to dump cap in a year when it's bad to do so.
