After this season, I'd like to see Wheeler be bought out. His contract is far too expensive for what he brings. If he was earning around $ 4.5 to 5 mil, you could live with it, and it be OK -- but at $ 8.5 mil --- too much.

Yeah, that ain't happening. Nice to think about but outside the realm of possibilities. Plus, if you do that, it's $2.750 on the cap per year until 2027.

Anyone think the Winnipeg media might not be as hard on Wheeler if he wasn't such a dick to the media over the years?

The Winnipeg media hasn't been hard on Wheeler at all until the past 2 or 3 games, and even then it's fairly soft.

His new contract will not even be in effect until next season! How could you ever buy out a contract the exact moment it would go into effect? The GM would get fired for that.

This is plain wrong, his new contract started last season. This is year 2.

Well he is 34 right now. I would think we’d all be surprised at this point if he wasn’t declining in some form.

Maurice never implicitly said Wheeler is playing injured. When he said he'll discuss Wheeler's play in 2-3 weeks or whatever he could have just as easily been alluding to being sure that his play would improve.
Wheeler isn't using an injury as an excuse though.

That’s a very peculiar choice of words. Idk, injury is an easy assumption but the other night when it seemed like 3 shifts in a row where he ended up all the way on Connor’s side in the defensive zone and then in OT tried to change wayyy before Connor even got off the ice I was thinking there’s something going on in his head that is distracting him.
