In a segment on TSN Thursday night, insider Pierre LeBrun said that the Blackhawks will approach defenseman Duncan Keith before the Feb. 25 deadline to gauge his interest in a potential trade to a contending team.

“The Hawks will go to him right before the trade deadline and ask ‘what do you want to do?’” he said. “He has a full no-trade clause and four more years on his deal, so he decides his future. He’s a legacy player, but G.M. Stan Bowman and the hierarchy in Chicago will go to him and say ‘do you want to go to a contender or stay here with the rebuild?’”

"Right before the trade deadline".

If it's out there now why wait to ask.

I doubt he was dangled at all considering reports Hawks had certain names in report (Saad, Kruger, Gustafsson or Murphy, Kunitz, Seabrook, Hayden) and he wasn't one of them.

Real dollars is only 1 million. Cap hit is the 5.5 tho. Could be attractive to smaller market team in the hunt.
The contract has the Coyotes written all over it.....and he'd join his buddies in the desert.

Why would Keith go to a team just as bad? This isn't a trying to get rid of a contract situation. Keith is still a good player.

I would love to see Keith get traded to a contender... then traded back to Chicago in June

Cap hit is all that really matters for contenders.

Also, pretty sure Chicago can still be hit with recapture penalties. That hurts.

Keith is definitely the type of player who will play to his contract. His game is much better suited for today's NHL.

Wonder if Chicago would be willing to move him to Dallas like they did with Sharp

Not that we are contenders and we would have to make room but still.

Kieth could reunite with q in Philly and play the campbell role. Overpaid premier dman past his prime and utilise his experience to the fullest while guiding one of the leagues most promising young defenses.
The question is how much hockey value does he have?
Amac plays that role now as poorly as he plays hockey so theres the cap swap and that expires next year so its relief for the hawks.
On the ice kieth is a middle pairing guy at this point though at the higher end but given recent regression id expect hell be at the lower end soon and bottom pair by the end. Im going with scott laughton alax lyon and a 2nd
Please be aware this is an offer for duncan kieth the player not the legend. Im basing his value on what he will do for philly not what he has done for chicago and i dont think its dissimilar than what the flyers got for timo and better than current offers for gudas

It's not just his cap hit that would be an issue. It's the control he has over the situation. Where he does or does not want to go would severely limit the chances of a bidding war.

I feel like he'll probably stay though.

Lol

Keith don't get traded unless it's worth it for the Hawks to trade him.

Highly doubt he's traded, but if, the Hawks will get more then people think

The way it's phrased is weird. Now, should they ask him now which teams he'd be open to being traded to? Absolutely. The Blackhawks should do that with all of their players with NMC's right now considering they are about to go two years out of the playoffs with an aging core (making it more alarming than a one-year blip). No one should be untouchable, but obviously the issue should be dealt with delicately and not in a "we suck, we want to trade you type way." More, call the guys into the GM's office and talk about how the last 2 seasons's have gone, and whether they may have any interest in playing in any other markets, and if they do, which ones would those be. The fact Toews, Kane and Keith are all going down as top 10, and possibly top 5 Blackhawks of all-time (if top 5, with Mikita and Hull), makes it a weird dynamic.
