Smith and Carpenter can't ever finish, yet Nylander was at his best playing with those two. Don't blame Nylander's linemates, blame his effort. We all know what the kid looks like when he's busting ass.

Yep. At this stage, Nylander is pretty much living up to the scouting report we heard from Sabre fans. He just hasn't shown the work ethic but he's certainly not the only Hawks player who has the skill but seems to lack the will.

Im not making excuses or anything just a talking point but it seems the kids operate under a different set of rules. Maybe he’s worried about making a mistake. Let him be what he is. Let him try to create chances in the o-zone and take some chances because the skill set is there offensively. Maybe put him on a less defense first line. Slide Kubalik to the Toews line and put Nylander on the third line. Let him be the guy on his line. That worked out earlier in the season.

Only difference I would have liked to see is Gilbert over Gus or 4k. But I get that we need Gus' for the PP and Gilbert and 4k are essentially the same type of player.

As it stands, Nylander is a 3rd liner. He shouldn't be expected to do anything more than that at this stage of his career.

Gilbert and 4K are not really that similar. Gilbert is much more SAH.
