One concussion doesn't automatically end your career or make you damaged goods. They effect everyone differently. There are plenty of examples on both sides of the fence.

This has what to do with hockey, again?
The issue is the concept of "consensus BPA" of selecting defenseman Carl Dahlstrom, who already has a medical red flag with a concussion, when defenseman Madison Bowey was still on the board.

Still doesn't answer how Toews getting in an MVA has anything to do with hockey or the topic at hand. Odd and irrelevant tangent.

Ugh, Larmer. 50%+ of NHLers have suffered a concussion before they join the NHL.

As for this thread, just going to put this here:

Something important to note this year, and going forward: Teams will have 4 years to sign European (excluding Russian - no transfer agreement) prospects. Some guys that may have gone unpicked before, because team's were worried they would take longer to develop, are now getting picked. I think that applies to Dahlstrom and Norell. Guys who the Hawks like their long-term potential, but may not have been picked as high (or at all) in previous years do to the lack of time to evaluate their development.

Good point Hoss, it really does make a difference. 3 years is barely enough to know what you have on your hands, especially Dmen.

It was actually 2 years before. And yes, I too think it made a huge difference in this draft for Chicago, and likely other teams as well. Having up to 4 years to decide whether to sign a guy or not is a significant increase from 2, in terms of being able to track a players development and figure out where they fit into your system and where/when you could see them on your team.

thats why Bowman has taken that many US players and Swedes. We have enough prospects already that are close to the NHL or 1-2 years away. Most of this years picks are 2+ years away FOR SURE.
