That ship sailed when he went down with an injury. However, he will probably see some part time duty, and will have every chance to to earn the #2 over the course of the season.

/\ | Perhaps … but when Q was asked to comment on the last game against Pens, he said the team played well and did point to Pirri as one of those. He also said no one “hurt their chances†which is somewhat encouraging but hardly an endorsement for any of them. Q gave him his warm-up game, now I reckon Pirri needs to really stand out in the final pre-season game (or to begin the season, if Q happens to give him that chance).

is krueger looking that sharp?

I'm not going to say he will be the #2C, but if Pirri wants to make it he needs to stick out more than Kruger. Just scoring a bunch of pts in a lesser league isnt enough, he needs to handle the all around game the way Q wants him to.

My opinion is Stan wants Pirri developed. At the minimum, it will increase his stock value. Someone with his offensive production should not be given up easily or be buried in the system.

Q would probably rather have someone with experience but theres the catch. How do you develop a prospect at the NHL level without being able to play. Looks to me that thats part of the disconnect between Stan and Q.

I think it's possible (even likely) that Nordstrom makes the opening day roster if he has a strong game on Saturday. After 2C filling Frolik's role comes next and if he looks better for that than Pirri does for 2C it could happen.

We are poised to make another Cup run this year. Hossa/Sharp/Keith/Seabrook aren't getting any younger. This isn't the season to "develop a prospect at the NHL level." Morin/Smith/Hayes are better suited for the NHL grind.

I was at practice today. Nordstrom skated on the 4th line. Zus 2nd C-Hayes-Sharp
Saad-Shaw-Smith. Nordstrom is a lock to start w/ Hawks.

Asst. Coach worked with Nordstrom after practice w/ PK positioning/reads.
Norstrom is the best Skater among all of these Hawk wanna-bees! He is the Best Prospect they have to Fill the PK/Fore check w/ Kruger. He will make mistakes/1st year in NHL, but he really is agile/quick/smooth and actually a much better playmaker than Frolik ever will be. I see this and so does Q!

Pirri and Morin were on the 5th line.

Wow, this is the first time I've ever seen someone consider a 28 and 30 year old defensemen as getting old. I don't consider defensemen getting old until around 35. 33 for forwards so Sharp still has some time before his skills begin to deteriorate. Of course Hossa is getting a little long in the tooth but the other 3 have several years before they "aren't getting any younger." Unless of course you mean it literally but then you'd have to mention every player in the league.

it's still true that they aren't getting any younger. Sure they have time left but why waste it when they are in their prime years?

With Pirri looking like less of a lock to take the 2C spot, and the Saad centre experiment all but over, how do you think the top lines will shake out?
Personally, I think Krueger is capable enough offensively and will start to come into his prime but I feel that he's been pigeonholed as a defensive stalwart so will be pegged as the 3rd/4th line centre, PP specialist.

Sharp has experience at centre and so does Kane but it looks like neither has been tested there this preseason. It's kind of amazing it's still up in the air at this point in time.

If you listen to Q’s comments after practice yesterday, he leaves little doubt that he will be playing Handzus some, as his 2nd line center. Whether that will be on a part-time basis is the only question - I doubt he could handle it full time. Not a word from Q about anyone else under consideration. Yep, it looks like Pirri must look like Jonny Toews out there on Saturday night to get his attention. I think Q’s mindset is to send Pirri back to RFD and see if his play will earn his way back… which is probably better than keeping him here to sit for games on end. The decision may not be all Q’s however.

Q loves his vets. He just has to have unbridled love and trust for the player to put him in the top 6.....or even top 9.

welcome to HF, where it seems anyone over 25 is over the hill. This is where a 22 year old Pirri is "rotting away" because he hasn't cracked the defending Stanley Cup champs lineup yet.

I thought Bollig was also on the 4th line. Why can't Morin play on the 4th line ahead of Bollig. I don't see that talked about much. Bollig much easier to sit. All these kids I would think are head of Bollig.
