This is a question that I've been thinking about for a long time. In your opinion, who are some of the biggest Chicago sports busts (Hawks included)? I'm interested to hear what you all have to say. Mods, feel free to move all responses to the Other Sports thread if you feel the need to.

Too many Bears to list - Stan Thomas, Thierry, Terrell, Mirer, Enis, Salaam, Benson, Kevin White, McClellin, McNown...and that list barely scratches the surface.

Cubs - Earl Cunningham (taken one pick after Frank Thomas), Mike Harkey, Ty Griffin, Matt Harvey, Gary Scott, Vitters, Colvin, and of course Corey Patterson, who was supposed to be the next Mickey Mantle. Again, barely scratches the surface.

Bulls - Brad Sellers, Stacey King, Jay Williams, Eddy Curry.

Imagine how good the bulls could have been if they drafted mailman instead of Oakley, or Kemp instead of King.

David Terrell.... the guy who would celebrate a 6 yard catch on 3rd and 8 like he won the Super Bowl.

I doubt there is another team that has drafted worse than the Bears in the first round over the past 25 years.

Cubs, Felix Pie, had a ton of hype as a 5 tool player.

White Sox, Jon Rauch, talked up as the next Randy Johnson.

Bears, Cade McNown, just a complete bust. For me, the worst part about this one was always the fact they had the 7th overall, traded back to 12, then watched the Vikings take Culpepper at 11. Culpepper was a beast in the beginning of his career. Haynes too, complete bust.

Hawks, Yakubov/Vorobiev, Hawks had the 10th and 11th overall. It was a much needed chance to turn the franchise around and neither played full season’s worth of games. Vorobiev was actually really good IMO. His relationship with the team broke down and he went back to Russia. Yakubov just sucked.

Well in terms of ROI, certainly you have to put Toews on the list as a bust (for the cap number in rstrd):

This is year #5 of his $10.5 m cap hot per year
....and he got a lit more cash up front in the early years of this deal...made a ton of money..

So what did we get from him?

Yr1 (2015/16) 80GP 28g 30a 58 pts and +16
.725 pts/g .35 g/g

Yr2(2016/17) 72GP 21g 37a 58pts and +7
.806 pts/g ..29 g/g

Yr3(2017/18) 74GP 20g 32a 52pts -1
.703 pts/g .27 g/g

Yr4(2018/19) 82GP 35g 46a 81pts +2
.988 pts/g .426 g/g

Yr 5(current)* 29GP 5g 10a 15pts -6
*to date .517pts/g .172 g/g

So only 1 season where acceptable 81 pts forca $10.5 cap hit and even that is overpaid ...of only 81 poi ts then the +/' should be better than just +3..so even in his greatesxyear point-wise of his career ,overall not much of a difference guy...on a net basis.

But even this 1 "great" season is justv1 of the first 4.. The other 3 were men...disappointing...for the money expended.

So what does he give so far this season?

Total Bust so far ....slightly over a half-point per game only ...just 5 hoalsvin firstc29GO and a lousy -6..
..
Certainly not 1C calibre ..let alonreworth $10.5 per yr.

OVERPAID BY A LOT ...Looks to.me like the $10.5 for 9 years has turned very sour
...we may be looking at only a 1of 8years where even close to justifying his pay level.

Man I was really excited about Jack Skille once upon a time. He still carved out a decent career as a 4th liner, but not what I thought he was gonna be. Just did not have the hockey sense.

Bears: Stan Thomas, Tank Johnson, Alonzo Spellman, Kevin White

White Sox: Adam Dunn

Hawks: Kyle Beach, Billy Sweatt, Igor Makarov, Mikhail Yakupov, Pavel Vrobiev, Ty Jones, Eric Lecompte

Hawks lead because that is where my loyalty lies.

Totally unqualified to comment on Cubs/Bulls.

OMFG 50 ... Toews is not even remotely close to being anywhere near being remotely close to a bust!
You must really have an issue with the whole money game!
Our two faces of the franchise got paid for the three cups ... that's the way it works and it is a gamble that they will continue to perform at the same level.
Get over it man! You are a freaking broken record!
You are entertaining but sometimes you are a royal pain in the arse to tolerate.

True story. When I was a young go hard living in Old Town, my group and Terrell’s group partied very hard one night at Tequila Roadhouse on Wells. He was hitting on one of my friends. Hard!!

he was actually a really cool dude.

bust yes, but fun guy to hang with at a cheesy dance bar
