Who has the worst contract league-wide right now based on the ratio of how much that player gets paid to the impact he has on the ice?

Salary is one thing, but the real albatross contracts come with term that often makes those contracts huge anchors for the team, so important to take into consideration.

MacDonald is the worst for the Flyers, but it seems there are much worse contracts league wide.

In terms of on ice value per dollar it unquestionably Marc Staal

This isn't helped by the fact he's in a position where he can do supreme damage- playing 20 minutes a night on defence :shakehead

The only other contract that rivals him is one of the Dallas goalies- probably Niemi

In terms of on ice performance combined with salary combined with the damage they actually can cause based on usage and position, it's Staal for my money

Contracts with one year remaining aren't albatrosses.

Staal def is. Giradi still has some effectiveness and is only 3 years left. That extra year on Staal is going to make the buyout harder to do. 8 years vs 6 years for Giradi of dead space, but Staal has hurt this team more and is a bigger liability on the ice. Giradi with sheltered mins on a bottom pairing can still be useful.

Straight up?
Probably someone like Dustin Brown.

In the long run?
Weber or Luongo or some player that's going to totally bone a team with a huge recapture penalty if they retire at exactly the wrong time.

Loui Eriksson @ 6 million x 5 more years on a bottom feeder like Vancouver is brutal.

Montreal fans probably won't be too happy with Weber's in a few years.

LA fans probably won't be to happy with Kopitar's in a few years.

But Gaborik and Giordano's contracts are disgusting for what ya get.

Gio doesn't belong here. 5 years left at 6.75 when he's still a number 1. It's a little long given his age, but nothing brutal
