Bunting will never get voted for the Calder trophy unless he scores a million goals and points. The media will have this weird obsession that he shouldn't be considered a rookie, mix with the fact that this is a Toronto Maple Leafs player after all.

agreed, it’s the Raymond and Zegras show right now

Missed the first period due to work, I shit you not I just stepped into my house and I hear the goal horn go off, Tavares scores. I quickly take my shoes off run to sit down on the couch, before my ass hits the seat Matthews scores. It was glorious

While I think that is a true statement by Keefe, a coach should NEVER give his team an excuse for poor play. It's not the coaches job to be their buddy and be understanding, it's his job to push the team through that wall. You can be understanding and not say the quiet things out loud. Is that a statement he makes in the playoffs? Team is tired so of course they are going to play loose. Keefe might be a good X and O coach ( I don't think he is) but his mouth, man he needs to learn to zip it. He says the dumbest things at the most inopportune times... not a fan.

I don't think Keefe is scared to call out his team, watch all or nothing if you think he is buddy-buddy with everyone.

Yeah Hyman's pretty great, I'm surprised there are still people questioning that as if we were still in the year 2017. If I would have been told several years ago that his name would be coming up in conversations about who will play for team Canada I would been like WTF, you can't be serious. But here we are, he's developed into a fantastic player and he's a big part of why EDM got off to such a great start this season. It's too bad we couldn't afford to keep him, luckily it seems the new guys are doing a good job of filling the hole left by his departure, at least that seems to be the case so far.

His name is not coming up cause he deserves it. There are probably 50 Canadians who should make it over him.

Sorry but Zach Hyman making the Olympics roster would be such a joke. He's a top six guy with a good motor, but when you can bring a team made exclusively of elite players there is zero reason Hyman should be mentioned at all.

I agree he most likely won't be picked but his name has come up here and there for sure.

By talking heads in the media, I don't think there has been a legit source saying he is being considered (correct me if I am wrong)

Hands had 6 goals in his first 6 games and there was talk about it. Since then he's scored 5 and is pretty well useless without McDavid.

I haven't heard anyone say that he "is being considered", more like when there is discussion as to who might be on the team and they're throwing out names, his name does come up and when I say they, yes I mean media people. That's still something though, I mean a few years ago his name would never have come up in any such discussions to to me, it's just another sign of how far he's come in the last few years.

And TBH I don't even know who or what would be considered a legit source, it's all noise to me.

He plays with a generational talent, not sure what's strange about that guy being a big part of what happens on his line.

GF% measures the percentage of goals a player's team gets vs the other team's while he's on the ice.
It's kinda like a fancy +/- so you can't take it too seriously especially this early but in this case:

5v5 adjusted Hyman with McDavid 57.1
5v5 adjusted Hyman without McDavid 23.5

is significant. Hyman is getting slaughtered when he doesn't play with McDavid.

It's a travesty that this fanbase can hate on a superstar like Marner but glorify a horribly overpaid bottom sixer because he hustles while playing WITH superstars.

Interestingly Hands who gets to play with superstars has 19 points as does Bunting who gets to play with superstars. One of them makes $950k the other makes $5.5M.

That does seem like a pretty big shift, maybe the rest of EDM just sucks though, who knows. To have a better idea you'd have to dive deep into other players in similar situations which would be hard to find anyway, as McDavid is such a special player so not sure how many comparable situations there are to begin with. But whatever, it's Hyman, he doesn't play for us any more so I don't really care TBH.

I wouldn't say Hyman gets "glorified", he improved a lot in his time here and he always worked his butt off so nothing wrong with appreciating that.

I agree hating on Marner is dumb but whatever, it's a big fan base so there will be all kinds of different opinions.

You keep referring to Hyman as "hands", what's you're problem with him anyway?

My problem is that he should never have been in the top 6 as it was brutal watching him and we as fans were robbed of the potential success that might have been. We'll never know.

On the other hand, perhaps both of our coaches who thought it was best for Hyman to play with top end talent were correct. But you're right, it's possible that two NHL coaches were both wrong and you're right, and it's definitely true that we can never know for sure one way or the other.

I hear ya but it does seem kinda funny that Ritchie got moved back very quickly. If he was still on the top line it would be very similar for me.

It's very odd to see that last playoffs Hands got 22 minutes a night of ice time (third for forwards after Matthews and Marner) and got one point. While Spezza got 12 minutes a night with his 5 points.

You can tell the Leafs are starting to get tired and fatigued, they have played the most games so far, (and somehow Boston has only played 21). They have been sloppy in both the neutral zone and d-zone these past couple of games.

With the injuries/suspensions piling up, its good the Leafs banked as many points as they did in November.

They just have to do whatever they can to put up points until the 19th. After that they have 3 days off, a game, and then another 3 days off. Nice reset can happen at that time

This is always the way. Can't remember the last season where Boston didn't have a million games in hand.
