TV: Best series finales

Now that one of the biggest shows of the last 10-15 years has ended, I got curious to discover what everyone's favorite series finales are. Add in however many you wish.

1. M.A.S.H - Goodbye, Farewell and Amen
2. Sopranos - Made in America
3. Babylon 5 - Sleeping in Light
4. Star Strek: Deep Space Nine - What you Leave Behind
5. Doctor Who (10th Doctor) - The End of Time

I added in Dr. Who because with each regeneration it's almost like a new show is taking place.

I liked the All Good Things finale for TNG.

The recent Veep finale was great.

I always liked the Seinfeld finale as it was ballsy and sort of made fun of the audience.

ER finale was well done.

My three favorites are probably:

Star Trek: The Next Generation - great ending to my favorite series
Newhart - One of the best twists in TV history
The Mary Tyler Moore Show - Emotional and one of the best closing shots in TV history

I forgot about that, too. Good call. I remember being surprised at how poignant it was for a comedy built on insults and sexual humor.

It's a good series in the mold of other 80s sitcoms, but has a special charm because it's set in a small rural community rather than a big city or suburban location like the vast majority of sitcoms. I'm a fan, but I wouldn't say that it's "amazing" or anything. Other 80s sitcoms may've been a little funnier, a little more poignant and a little more socially relevant. It had one of the most memorable finales, though, which is why you hear so much chatter about it. That's not to undersell the fact that the entire series run was good, though.

Breaking Bad did have a satisfying finale but it also had the benefit of happening at around the same time as Dexter’s finale.
