This came from another thread so I decided to bring it here since it wasn't relevant there.

The question is pretty simple as to who was the best player overall in that time period.

I will do a more detailed pro and cons for the 6 guys I have listed and I will the other option open but really it probably won't matter.

Here are the regular scoring leaders over that time period.

Here are the NHL playoff stats as well.

Shouldn’t Lidstrom be included as an option? He won the Norris 4 times over that time period.
Sure but he only played 7 of the 10 seasons so....and I'm a huge fan of his but since we are only voting for one player he probably isn't a good option but he has been added.

Points/gp is crosby ainec
Goals/gp is ovi ainec

So which of those two things do you prefer, is what this poll comes down to.

People would undervote dmen in a poll from this period because they weren't quite as offensive as current NHL dmen.

I personally prefer pronger over Lidstrom to be on my backend, but both were obviously insane.

ovie. 40 point lead over everyone else. 130 more goals than the closest competitor. most even strength and power play points. 5th in hits.

Outside of goals, Crosby was pretty much neck-and-neck with OV in all areas of offense but did so in 133 less games. Career-wise, they were about equal but Crosby was the better player and boasted quite a bit more playoff sucess.

You must've missed the playoff stats.

Crosby's 48 more playoff points actually gives him an 8 point lead over Ovechkin during that 10 year period.

This is without even factoring in that Crosby played 105 fewer games.

playoff success is more to do with a team than a player. crosby was better but durability is also part of how good a player was, so for me its ovie.

Crosby for sure. Ovi caught up some ground on Sid later on in his career because of his longevity and crazy goal scoring but during this period it was pretty unanimous

i think that has a lot to do with teams. pens were built much better for the playoffs so crosby got to play in more games.

You can make a case for Ovi. And I am a huge gr8 fan. But the right answer is Crosby.

Crosby for me. The most dominant player on the ice. He could beat you in so many ways and simply controlled the game. The latter is what does it for me. When he was in the ice he simply controlled most outcomes. Closest I’ve ever seen to him is McDavid.

Uhh, don't you have that backwards? First 10 years is until 2014-2015.

From 2015-2016 on:

Hart finalists - Crosby is 2, 2, 2, 4 . Ovechkin - best finish is 6th.
Points - 684 to 610 for Crosby (despite 23 less games).
5x top 10 in scoring for Crosby, 0 for Ovechkin
Playoffs - 2 smythes to 1 for Crosby. 83 points to 71 (edge Crosby)
Crosby even had the stellar world cup MVP performance in that stretch

Ovechin does have more rockets (4 to 1), and goals (353 to 267), but that's about it.

Crosby is definitely better than Ovechkin since 2015-2016.

Most people have Crosby ahead of Ovechkin all-time. But some think Ovechkin should be ahead.
What I think is undisputable though is that Crosby is doing better than Ovechkin later in their careers. The Ovechkin > Crosby crowd is usally based on his incredible 2008-2010 peak.

tldr: 2006-2015 I voted Crosby in this poll, but Ovechkin actually has a better case vs Crosby from 2006-2015 than he does from 2015-2023, where it's definitely advantage Crosby.

Crosby easily. He's the only player who was elite during this entire time period (at least when he played), plus he was right there in the convo with best player at his peak in this span (I think 2008-2010 Ovechkin was the highest peak of this span, but Crosby is still right behind him).
