idk about other teams, but in 1998 the Lightning getting Vinny Lecavalier and Brad Richards was huge

Probably Montreal 2007

McDonagh
Pacioretty
Subban

Too bad they mishandled those assets so badly.

In 2011 the Lightning grabbed Namestnikov, Kucherov, Nesterov, Palat and Peca -who could possibly be NHL ready next year. Hands down the best draft we've ever had. Is it THE best draft ever? I wouldn't go that far but it's certainly one of the better drafts you're going to find.

Then they followed it up the next year with Koekkoek, Vasilevskiy, Paquette, Dotchin (who has been fantastic with us) and crown jewel Nikita Gusev, who took the KHL by storm and was not just one of the best players on SKA St. Petersburg but was one of the best players in the league. Hands down the best prospect we have right now and nabbed in the 7th round nevertheless.

Late edit: double checked the numbers and for what it's worth Gusev out-produced Panarin's best KHL year by 9 points. However this was done at the age of 24 vs when Panarin was 22. Apples to oranges because of different ages and different rosters. But it gives you an objective view of Gusev's potential and just how much of a steal he was as a 7th rounder.

In terms of pure quantity, the Sens might have a pretty exceptional 2011 draft. When all is said and done, the Sens could produce up to 8 200+ game players:

Zibanejad (337)
Pageau (251)
Prince (114)
Dzingel (111)
Puempel (79)
Claesson (49)
Noesen (46)
McCormick (27)

in 2008, we got Karlsson, Wiercioch, Z. Smith, D. Grant and Borowiecki; 2009, Cowen, Silfverberg, Lehner, Wideman, and Hoffman.

It's obviously a bit early to tell, but 2015 has already gotten the Jackets two full-time blueliners (Werenski and Nutivaara), and another two look like they could take NHL spots as soon as next year (Carlsson, and Gavrikov if he comes over).

Three of the current Preds playoff team came from 2009 - Ryan Ellis, Craig Smith, and Mattias Ekholm.

Not the best but worth mentioning. In the 2010 draft the canes selected Jeff Skinner in the first, Justin Faulk in the second and Frederik Andersen in the seventh round. That's a first line forward, top pairing defenseman and starting goalie in one draft. Too bad Andersen wouldn't sign.

Doesn't really fit the OP's parameters, but the Oilers drafted McDavid and used a pile of our other picks to trade for Talbot at the 2015 draft. Our top 2 players joined the organization on the same day. Not both were through the draft though.

Boston in 2006 has to be the winner in recent memory at least:

Kessel, Lucic, Marchand, and essentially drafted Rask because they traded Raycroft for him before ever playing in the NHL.

Canucks best is easily 1999 - can't do much better than a pair of Art Ross winner in the same draft.

Is it the only time a team picks 2 3 ever?

Also one of the only time where the team has the two best players in the draft. The other i can think of is Anaheim in 03, but Weber might have a word to say.

I'm not sure Anaheim clearly got either of the top two players in the 2003 draft - there's so many elite players in that draft. Are Getzlaf and Perry clearly better than Suter, Weber, Burns (late bloomer, but still), and Bergeron?
