Reasonable contract for a team that can't afford to hurt its center depth any more.

Just as long as we don't get any more "Don't stop believing" commercials with him playing piano.

Love this deal.

Not a huge fan of the contract. 5 years is too much, and I would have liked the cap hit to be a little less but i can live with $3.85

I was thinking more like 3 years. Seems a little long but he was worth $4M+ on the open market so they likely had to go longer term to get the AAV down. Hopefully Bergy stays a decent mid level guy and it doesn't become a bad contract in a few years.

Also interested to see if there are any NTC or NMC terms.

And now they'll protect Bergy in the expansion draft, exposing one more forward than they would've exposed otherwise.

Not thrilled with it, but we weren't going to lose Berg with our current center situation. He bring a lot to the team too so I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Money is a little more than I would've liked but not really a sticking point. Term is too long though.

that rate isn't going to handicap the Blues, even if he he's only a 25-point guy in years 4 & 5. Likely had to give him term, if they weren't going to give him 'Lehtera-money'.

I'm fine with this deal. 4 x $3.5M would have been ideal...but whatever.

He'll still only be 33 when this contract is over. The term isn't a huge deal for what he brings. He's a playoff beast, worth keeping around if nothing but for that.

I think its a good for both side , but 3.25-3.5 was where I wanted it to fall. I can only hope now that this is the player he is since the surgery is healed... please be right

Like I said in the trade form section, who would have thought out of Backes, Osh and Bergy that Bergland would have the longest Note career

Its going to be really nice to have someone who can slide up and play center as a depth player. And if his post-surgery trend this year proves to be sustainable its going to be a very favorable contract. But if the team is trying to part with Lehtera, has Stastny going to the end of his contract and possibly trying to attract UFA centers, having Berglund is an important point for stability.

I felt last season when he first came back from injury that you could see immediately how much he brought to the team with his puck possession and size, even when he wasn't scoring. I like the contract, and think the team went longer on term (5 years vs 3 years) to keep the AAV so low. He could have gotten more if he'd wanted to go to the UFA market.

Its nice to sign players who want to be in St Louis. Its hard not to like a guy for that.

Eh, five years is a long time to be tied to a third liner, but the cap hit is fine.
