If you get him for the right price, I think you will be very happy with him. Serviceable Dman who can play up and down the lineup. Seems like a pretty good locker room guy as well.

Yikes.

Keep in mind that Ben Hutton was chained to the boat anchor of Erik Gudbranson for a good portion of the last few seasons, and when freed from EG was much more effective. Definitely worth taking a flyer on.

For the same price, most will take Gardiner, as they should. I'm not sure if he's fully healthy or not, but the talent Gardiner has is far superior to Hutton.

Probably because he has a source he trusts a lot that’s close to Hutton or gets reliable info on him.

As for the Rangers, I don’t see why they would be involved.

He’s more than competent at handling bottom pair minutes, and can play in the top 4 with a quality partner.
