With the schedule we've had lately, the older guys are the ones that'll feel it the most. It's likely why Burns and Staal have had some brutal turnovers and poor defensive plays lately.

We really just have to make it past Saturday. There's a nice 4 day break between games. It'll give some rest and recovery time for the whole team and hopefully allow them to get their heads on straight for the final push of the regular season.

Only watched about half but saw the goals. Weird game. Neither team could get anything going offensively. All 3 non-EN goals were lucky. The Pens' first came directly on the heels of Svech getting tripped, and the other two were deflections off the other team. Other than the GAJ line, we weren't doing a good job of getting to the dirty areas with puck possession.

The only concern here for me was the 2nd line. Svech is awful, and right now Svech+Necas+Kuzy is getting beat defensively.

Burns has played almost 900 consecutive games. He won’t be taking any maintenance days unless he personally asks for them.
only 231 to go to pass Kessel. and 374 non-consecutive to pass Marleau. They may seem out of reach considering he's 39 but if he wants to play until 45 I could see him breaking those 2 records as a Cane. I don't see him playing for any other team the rest of his career, he fits in so well here and presumably still wants to get a ring and we're one of his best shots.

I could see him going to Dallas.

He might not care, but he has to be thinking about this a little bit. He just watched Kessel and Marleau get the red carpet treatment for breaking that record. It’s a genuine legacy item that he would be asked about and honored for until he’s geriatric.

He seems like a guy that could easily play till 44, 45 if he didn’t mind skating third-pair minutes as a specialist. Chara and Chelios didn’t seem like that guy until they went out and did it. I could very much seem Burns doing a tour of the league for an extra couple of seasons in order to keep taking shots at a Cup, hit that number, and solidify that HHOF legacy. Oh, and make several million dollars in the process. As long as he’s physically able, he’d be a fool not to.

As long as he's willing to play 3rd pair and sign league min contracts for a few years, definite possibility

Would be friggin awesome if he can keep playing well and we can keep him that long and see him break 1 or both of those records here. And yeah I agree he probably should be thinking about it, but who knows what he's thinking. Obviously there are exceptions like the 2 guys you mentioned but I think it's extremely tough for pro athletes to go from top tier player in the league to sticking around as a bottom tier player. Of course also depends on how he feels physically. I really hope he still has 2-3 more years as a good fit on our top pair with Slavin. He was definitely better last year but he's still been a fine top pair guy this year, we'll have to see how long that can last.
