Again too much Tappara players as if they haven´t already proven themselves. It would be wiser to let them concentrate on their club team. They have a tons of matches and a damn CHL-final coming.

I'm surprised Aaltonen made it. Puistola or Huuhtanen from Jukurit would've been more deserving. Maybe last time that Aaltonen plays for the national team?

Its too bad they put this in Malmö. No real hockey culture here. Stands will be empty. I would like this to be held in Göteborg, weird that Göteborg never gets any EHT tournaments.

Thanks Ra!

Cool to see 3 Extraliga goalies. Looks like this roster is heavy on Extraliga guys. I wonder if Jalonen is trying to find soldiers from the domestic league for the Skoda cup?

Klok is my fav D in Europe but is having a weird season... hope things turn around. Nice to see Jordan back for us (he was banned because he was in KHL I think) and Kempny is a great solider. I imagine those 3 are on the Skoda Cup team and then hopefully some NHLers and Jiricek to fill it out.

Forwards.. lots of controversy over no Lakatos (lots of points but not at 5 on 5). Curious how he does. Chlapik, Smejkal and Jasek are the only ones that excites me in that forward group though. Smejkal should be a lock for Skoda.. he's on fire in the Liiga and a beauty bottom 6 player. Hoping he gives the NHL a crack after this season. Nice to finally see Jasek!

My guess is 1 win and 2 losses. I don't think Jalonen cares about winning and is more looking into roles which is how it should be!

You got it right! The beauty of the finnish system, this all is just a one big practice until the Quarterfinal game.

OT: How come Bobby Holik played so few NT tournaments?

It's a great question. I have no idea. His last 2 times he didn't do very well. Son to a legendary hockey family too.

According to always reliable wikipedia, Holik became a 'merican citizen on November 4 1996. Right after the '96 World cup, maybe the Czech Ice Hockey Association didn't like that? Oh well, Czechia still won everything without Holik. Great player but it's bit weird seeing him with so few NT tournaments.

As usual, Sweden have declines. Fantenberg, Söderström and Lindholm have declined. Replaced by Alsing, Enroth and Granberg.

No idea why Enroth gets the chance, he is not good enough. And Alsing as a replecement for Fantenberg is a weird one, they are like day and night in playingstyles.

Patrik Karlkvist should be on swe roster imo
He is a very good SHL player, but his skating and low level of intensity might not be a good fit on the international ice.

Just watched the Czech Swede game (most of it)... we got the win! I think Sweden leads the EHT so this might help us in catching them for the overall table. I coudl also be way off.lol

So nice to finally see Klok (whom I was hoping to see in Arizona) and Kovar back is great. That winning breakout was Klok, Kovar and Chlapik.. all 3 guys I'd like to see at the Skoda's!

Another few from this team I want are Smejkal, Kempny and maybe Jordan (not like we have a lot of NHL stud D coming over!lol)

That was great! On to Saturday.

So Finns thrashed us today 6:1, kinda embarassing but not a tragedy, its just a friendly "pre season" tournament, lots of guys for testing and such.

But I must say I didnt like this team from the day one I saw the nomination. Its really weak imo, lost of overaged, burned out players like Jordan, Kempny, Jerabek, Mozik ... old and slow D they are just not good enough anymore for the national team.

Also a lot of great in form players from ELH was left out and instead a bunch of players with questionable form and productivity like Kovarcik, Musil, Beranek or Zohorna were nominated.

So I hope it will help the coach and staff as a indication of which players NOT to take to World Cup. Honestly only Chlapik, Kovar, Smejkal, Klok, Flek and Cernoch should be in consideration for WC from this squad.

I'm watching the slaughter now.. still 0-0 so the pain hasn't begun for me yet.lol

I will say.. I am impressed that guys like Sobotka and Jerabek still try out and attend. The Olympics were a brutal fiasco for them and yet they still want to represent. That is impressive. I honestly thought we'd never see them again. I was a huge Sobotka fan back in the day.

I'm fine with Kempny as our D will be weak at Skoda's.. Hronek should be available and that might be it. Rutta, Gudas are playoff bound. Simek is often hurt. Gudas has no contract. Zboril will be unavilable but also never plays. Hajek will not be available but is now in the AHL. Galvas and Kral are in AHL and won't be available unless teams eliminatied. Knot is buried in AHL too. Same with Jiricek.

I'm thinking a good case on D is Hronek, Klok, Kempny, Jordan and the pick your fav Euro or hope for an AHLer.

Currently net is looking good as we have (pre trade) Vejmelka and Mrazek as a potential 1-2. Dostal also buried in AHL.

Forwards should be good but no Pasta this time. Hope Hertl comes over to be our 1C. The forward group is promising though.. totally agree on Smejkal, Chlapik.. I'll add Spacek as another with Cervenka and Kovar (who you said).

Again, some AHL guys would be nice too like Zohorna and Blumel (boy was I wrong about him playing 60 NHL games... frustrated about that one!)

Also, now 4-1... Kvaca had a real bad game. That 4th goal was brutal. Not saying Kvaca sucks, but he sucked today.lol
