Of course, my first GDT and the site will be down at like 10pm SK/AB time lol. Guess we'll see how this goes! Hope y'all enjoy my short story GDT!

In Calgary:

It was 5:30am in Calgary. It’s gameday. Darryl Sutter has slept in.

Darryl texting Cassie: Cassie, I can’t believe I slept in. I’ve got to come up with a different gameplan from last season against the Oilers. I no longer have Kneeor ---- Mark… to help defend McDavid out there. I only have 12 hours. I have to assemble the crew. AND Bessie and Beth have to be fed as well!

Cassie: I could come over and feed them to save you time, Darryl!

Darryl: Cassie, I’m not sure how to tell you this, but I trust you to feed Beth as much as I trust Matthew not to be a shit head out there tonight.

Later that morning in Calgary, at a reasonable time

Whenever Connor is in town, or playing in Edmonton, little Johnny always gets excited for his walks with Connor in the little man carrier.

little man.jpg

Connor: Johnny. You’re 28 years old dude, I can’t believe I’m still doing this.

Johnny
: Shut up and get walkin’ Connor. Mom ran out of apple juice boxes and Lunchables this morning, so I’m really not in the mood right now.

Meanwhile, over at Brad Treliving’s quarters…

Brad never really though through just how important Mark Giordano was to his club, especially facing the Oilers. The Flames GM has been trying to acquire back Mark for some time now, and today, he made an offer he thought Ron Francis could not refuse…

Needless to say, the Flames are looking all out of sorts before their first game of the season…

Over in Edmonton

The boys are ready to go. They’re getting the Kass Attack back tonight. 41-year-old Evan Bouchard is finally out of head coach Dave Tippett’s doghouse, as the grizzled 20-year vet is looking like a 21-year-old out there. Their head coach Dave Tippett just upgraded his old, worn down, should’ve-gotten-rid-of-3-years-ago Samsung 42” 720p TV with a 50-inch LG 4K TV.

The fantastic 4 are ready to take on the Flames!

Cassie is married, man. This ain’t it, chief…
This is not exactly meant to be taken seriously nor does it mean that I'm ok with adultery/cheating. Extremely loyal person who would never cheat myself. Don't take things on here too seriously my friend. That was 1 little part of the entire post. Cheers, and go Oilers.

It’s in poor taste. Put yourself in her and her husband’s shoes. Her face is out in public and you photoshop her like that. She can’t even defend herself.

I hate the Calgary Flames more than anyone here, but this is a bad look for Oiler fans. This is my last post about this. I’m not going to lecture you or respond any further. This doesn’t represent us and this isn’t funny.

Honestly, I didn't know she was married. I don't know the marital statuses of players nor coaches nor broadcasters. I'll take that part down. I do apologize, obviously was not my intention!

It was more a jab at her Flames homerism than a an accusation of infidelity. At least that’s how I took it.

I have to agree with @PeteEakins here, not a fan of either Cassie or Darryl, but we should post responsibly and hold ourselves to a higher standard here. I've got a wife and a daughter and I would hope that they would be allowed to do their job with dignity, and not have to be subject to stuff like this on-line or in real life.

I know you meant know harm, but as men, we need to hold each other accountable.

Our power play is a better weapon than their goons. If they want to run around like barbarians taking dumb penalties, so be it. We can beat them on the score sheet where it truly matters. Still, no such thing as a guaranteed victory in this league. If we don't take these guys lightly and constantly crash Markstrom's net, we should win.

NOW LET'S HAVE SOME FUN!

Valimaki - Gudbranson is ripe to get badly abused. McDavid needs to be going over the boards whenever they are on the ice.

I think we need more jam on that 4th line. McLeod and Turris are just way too butter soft for my liking.

Also, I think the 2nd line would be more effective if Yams and Puljujarvi were swapped. As is, they won't have much of an impact 5v5 (that's what happens when you put your 3 best forwards on 1 line)

I can’t believe you felt you needed to do a disclaimer…sad sad world I live in.

Thanks for the GDT and nice job!

Sensitive bunch this morning over a joke in a game day thread. Nice to see cancel culture is strong on the Oiler board today.
Ugh. Nobody/nothing was cancelled. It was pointed out that part of a post was in poor taste, the poster acknowledged that wasn't their intention but recognized how it could be perceived that way and modified the post. Honestly I appreciate that this forum holds itself to a higher standard.

"Hey Ron, I... kneed Mark back" sneaky caught me off guard. Thanks for the GDT!

I didn't see the unedited post, but respect for your consideration. Just as a few find people's distaste for the joke laughable, I'm equally amused at how quickly some are to cry "censorship" or "cancel culture" when neither are the case here. You're still free to make and enjoy whatever jokes you like; you're not free to get sour about it when someone (quite respectfully, no less) comments that it's in poor taste. It's not as though there were cries to nuke the thread or anything.

Regarding the game, I'm looking forward to seeing that second line in action again. I'm not a huge fan of perma-stacking McDavid and Draisaitl, but if Hyman can keep driving play down the ice like he was on Wednesday and Yamamoto finally manages to slay whatever snake has been biting him, it might be vaguely sustainable.

I feel like on paper, there's no way the Flames can win this. They have a worse team, and will even be missing Coleman. They will be rusty, while the Oilers will still be rested plenty enough. It's a home game for the Oilers. Kassian returns

So of course that means that the Flames win this somehow lol

Looking to see a better game from the top line. They looked bad 5 on 5 last game.
