Who are some bad contracts that the Hawks can take on to add assets and improve the roster without disrupting the longer-term plan with Bedard and Co?

Tavares $11m x 1
Skinner $9m x 3
Grubauer $5.9M x 3
Burkovsky $5.5M x 3
Girard $5m x 3
Seguin $9.85m x 3
Benn $9.5m x 1
Suter $3.65 x 1

Tavares, Skinner, Seguin, Benn, and Suter have NMCs and can probably be ruled out. The others have modified NTCs which could have the Blackhawks on there but who knows.

If the Canucks still need to dump Boeser or Garland then Davidson should be all over that.

Andres Lee is 2 years @ 7 and his NTC goes to modified 15 team list and Mikheyov is a guy most Nucks fans seem to want to dump for 2 years @ 4.75 with a 12 team no trade list.

The Isles aren't trading their captain but I'd be fine with Mikheyev if we're getting a pick to take him.

Anders Lee isnt very good anymore. They should trade him.

His wife is from Chicago so it would be a logical landing spot. Wouldnt mind seeing him playing with Bedard or Nazar for a bit and netfront powerplay.

Josh Bailey says hi. Lou absolutley will cut bait with vets when they are no longer productive.
Josh Bailey scored less points than Ryan Donato in a similar role and after getting bought out was retired. Anders Lee isn't good but he scored twenty goals last year. Apples and oranges.

Are they really that different? One produced at a 32pt/82 games, wore an A, and got his last year at 5 million deal dumped with a pick to be bought out. One produced 37 points/82games, makes 7 x2, wears a C, and I bet Lou would love to dump him if he could find a taker and it didn;t cost him to much. PS Lee's 20 goals are nice...but 1/4 were PP goals where he was fed 2 minutes a game of PP which at this point on a good team he shouldn't be.

Tavares and a 2026 3rd rounder for the rights to Mike Hardman and Filip Roos
It would be a first+ to take on that cap hit.
Tavares gets paid essentially all but the league minimum as a bonus. So while there is a $11M cap hit, Tavares actually only get paid $1M in cash. That might make it easier to move than if the cash was significant as well.

It cost Leafs a 1st to move Marleau to Canes for his 1 x $6.25M

To get Marleau to waive his NMC the Canes agreed to buy him out, so he became FA

Same premise would exist with Tavares hypothetical trade (Tavares certainly won't want to spend a year in rebuilding Chicago)

So, at very least Leafs 2024 1st would have to come Hawks way with Tavares

Completely different situation. Marleau would only go to the Sharks. Nobody knows where Tavares would go if anywhere. Wasnt Marleau like 40 at that time? Tavares can still play a bit and is only owed 1 million in real money.

Also your guessing he wouldnt want to spend a year here. Maybe he wants to resign at a lower rate here. Maybe he wants to put himself in a position to pick where he gets traded at 50% at the deadline.

The Blackhawks would benefit if he wanted to come here. Only the Maple leafs benefited from moving Marleau.

Like you said - the Canes had to pay Marleau about $4M, whereas if Taveres traded after the bonus is paid on 7/1 the acquiring team is only on the hook for $910K and Tavares is still a legit scoring line center.

That said - not a ton of teams who could easily absorb an $11M cap hit who also have a city where Tavares might be willing to play.

Its not a bad contract but Bruins may look for some cap space this summer.

Pavel Zacha has 3 years at 4.75.

bring in the all the Czechs.

Mrazek Necas and Zacha
