His offensive game has surpassed Backstrom's by a wide margin, and his defensive game is underrated. That's not to say he's as good defensively as Backstrom, but his transition and offensive game is good enough to make up for any defensive difference. Dude is a stud, and he just powered the Caps' offense to a Cup. I would have voted for him for the Smythe.
