Hossa is only owed $1M for each of the next 3 years with a cap hit of $5.275M
Seabrook is owed $37M over the next 6 years with a cap hit of $6.875M. (the final two years his NMC becomes a modified NTC)

Ryan is owed 30M over the next 4 years with a cap hit of $7.25M.

Sens get:
Cap hit of $12.15M for the next 3 seasons but Melnyk only pays $21.5M saving him $14.95M.
After that they have one year of Seabrook where he's paid $6M so Melnyk saves $875k.
Then he can be traded or he can stay when his pay drops to $5M and $4.5M potentially saving Melnyk another $4.25M.

Hawks get:
4 years of "intensity" for $30M actual dollars but with a cap hit of $29M.

Melnyk is playing an extra 10 million here so I don't see why they do it. If the term was the same then maybe but Seabrook's extra 2 years would make it a no go probably. They aren't getting anything special for that extra 10 million so I don't see why they'd go for it.

This is horrible for the Sens, literally does nothing for them. Ryan is a serviceable NHL player and most likely will remain such until the end of his contract. Seabrook will surely have to be bought out with at least 4 years remaining on his deal as he won't be able to play in the NHL in any capacity. And so Melnyk won't be able to save anything.

Make that deal in a heartbeat you could even include Rutta as well in it.

Seabrook and Hossa are a complete albatross.

Where are the picks coming from the Hawks? Why would the Sens come in and just save the Hawks from their terrible contracts?

Hossa coul be workable as the hawks get an actual player but seabrooks deal is worse than Ryan's

Honestly, there's probably a workable deal for Hossa if the Senators are going to be the new Coyotes and take on those types of deals. Seabrook is just a complete non-starter though, even for Ryan.

Hawks are going to have to retain salary due to term on Seabrooks contract.

Ryan will likely be bought out too as he probably can’t play in the nhl in any capacity.

7 point difference between a forward and defensemen.

The point you're responding to is incredibly dumb but I don't think Ryan can't play anymore he's just hurt often and incredibly overpaid.

Seabrook buyout is pretty ugly due to the front loaded contract and signing bonuses. Buying out the final 4 years would see the Hawks save $2.8m in real dollars and a similar $2.8m in cap space.

Seabrook AAV $6.875, buyout cap hits with 4 years remaining:
$6.58m
$3.58m
$6.58m
$5.08m
$0.7m
$0.7m
$0.7m
$0.7m

Ryan has perfectly fine underlying numbers for a middle 6 forward. He was also on pace for ~45 points which is perfectly fine production for a middle 6 forward. So basically, you are talking out of your ass.

You also had to mention "7 point difference" when 1) Ryan played 17 games less and 2) that offense is basically the only thing Seabrook can provide at this point.

I still don't think Ryan is as fried and done professionally as some clamor him to be but what do I know?

He's not just look at his 2016-17 playoffs he was the best forward for Ottawa hands down. He and Karlsson led the team to the ECF.

That being said he is always injured. He's had something like 7 hand injuries over the past 2 seasons and 4 broken fingers. Ryan is a pretty good player when he gets his feet moving and when he hits like he did in the playoffs. Problem is he's streaky and often injured.

This only makes sense for the Sens if the Hawks eat at least 2 million per year of Seabrook's salary

Marian Hossa will never play hockey again but there is no way he would accept Ottawa to be the last place he played for. He would never waive for this, even to help Chicago.
