They definitely can be. I stopped wearing my Avs gear after a game a few years ago. I am not an obnoxious fan, I barely even cheer for them, just watch the game. But after a game against the Flames that Smyth scored in OT I had people throwing popcorn and stuff at me. That was enough for me.

I remember back in the '97 playoffs in edmonton when I was a pretty young we had guys up in the nosebleeds throw beer at us after a game and threaten to attack my dad. We weren't particularly loud either. I never wear Avs gear to games after that even though there's rarely an issue.

I've worn my Avs stuff in the nosebleeds of Joe Louis Arena. One drunk "accidentally" spilled his beer on me, but for the most part they were just passive aggressive. Oddly enough, a Columbus "fan" tried to fight me for wearing Avs stuff to Nationwide. I burst out laughing at the suggestion and he didn't take to kindly to that.
