I'll repeat it here: EK tied Dorion's hands by not agreeing to any extension before the trade.

Ek tied Dorion's hand and also Melynk. Who trying to save $$$.

all in all I feel zero sympathy for my Ottawaians regarding this deal only. As it sets up the avs tremendously. After this year though hopefully Melynk gets run out of town and they get a the arena closer to actual Ottawa.

EK I think won't extend in SJ. Just my hunch.

This time last year there were strong Duchene rumours after losing game 7 in OT in the ECF against the defending champs.

Now they just traded EK for peanuts and have no first round pick in the middle of a full rebuild.

You keep throwing out this word rental as if all are made equal. And again, a bum like Lučić got a potential starting goalie, a very good prospect (Miller) and a 1st round pick. This is the best defenseman the world has seen since Lidas hanged them up and he got traded for less than 3 months of Lučić got for the Bruins FFS.
