Colorado gets:
Khaira

Oilers get:
Andrighetto

1 -for - 1 deal, swap of different style players. Ghetto seems to be the odd man out in Colorado as he isn't super effective in a bottom 6 role and the Avs have enough short offensive tweeners like Jost, Kerfoot and Compher. Khaira gives them more size in the bottom 6, a guy who can kill penalties and push Bourque out of the lineup.

Oilers get a cost-controlled talented & speedy shoot-first guy that has proven the ability to play with elite players. If they threw him on the wing with McDavid & Draisaitl I could see him really lighting it up

Khaira had more goals last year than the speedy scorer - albeit in more games - and has really been coming on lately. Just got his second assist of the night and has points in four straight. Edmonton should pass.

You want a gritty PK type, Kassian just scored. Deal?

I honestly wouldn't mind Kassian, but I'm probably in the minority. Not a fan of his skating but he's shown he can be a force in the playoffs and adds a much needed right-handed shot up front. Either way, I just think Ghetto would be a good fit on Edmonton and he could be had for cheap.

What’s wrong with Kassian’s skating? He’s above average in my eyes. No problem if you dislike other parts of his game, but skating shouldn’t be one of them.

Seconded. Kassian is a very good skater. One of the best on the Oilers. His worst trait is that he never gets the benefit of the doubt from the officials.

Kassian’s a pretty darned good skater especially for a man his size. My major gripe with his game is he can’t really take or make a pass on the fly. As he demonstrated tonight too if he’s given time and space he has a nice shot.

I think the Oilers have very much the same type of player in Cagguila. Only younger and cheaper and better and without giving up Khaira.

Sorry, what? Kassian is probably one of the best "tough guys" who can also skate in the entire league.

Oilers have been stockpiling cheap bottom 6 wingers so it's not really a position we need to add right now.

Khaira for Andrighetto couldn't work, the 800k salary difference wouldn't work with our cap. Jujhar was struggling for most of the season but once Hitchcock has come aboard he's really started playing much better. Khaira does bring more tools to the table and I can see the interest.

Caggulia's salary works better for a deal though the value is much greater than Khaira's. And don't be fooled by his height and weight, he plays a much bigger game.

Kassian is a pretty underrated player in "my opinion." Not the best skater, but still very speedy. Wish he could drop the goon reputation, play smarter and stop taking dumb penalties. Probably a 1/4 of his Pim are bs trash from refs just taking him out of the game to calm heated situations. He plays decent on the PK too. Almost think he would make a good fit in T.O. with the talk surrounding that team the last little bit.

Guess for the Khaira for Andrighetto, 50% would have to be retained. But sure, then it's a fine trade for both sides.

Values are not far off.

AVs likely pass, due to having too many similar bottom 6 type grinding players. Just offer a 3rd round pick or prospect.

Ghetto would be a a great fit for the Oilers though.

Can Kassian play D? Or is he literally just a bowling ball? If he’s good in his own end I’d trade Ghetto for him

He plays on the 2nd unit PK and does a good job and actually has a pretty smart/active stick. He's not a defensive specialist, but he's quite competent and not a liability defensively. His specialty though is coming in fast on the forecheck with some nice hits and turning the puck over in the offensive zone, then creating pressure with linemates who are also good on the boards and know how to cycle. He's a nice player. Not sure he's worth his 2 million salary, but for 1-1.5m he's a good deal. So it's not that he's massively overpaid, because he's not. It's just that we're awfully close to the cap and probably have to cut a bit here and there, even if it's 500k or so on a few guys. Kassian is probably a likely candidate. Then again, the cap is going up a decent amount, so who knows.

And to the OP, no to trading Khaira. I hope he's an Oiler for life. Love him as a player.

He’s not bad in his own end at all, which is why he was converted to the PK in the first place.

The biggest drawback is he will take at least one jaw droppingly stupid penalty every 3 games or so. He gets a few reputation calls as well.

I like the player but he’s just too expensive. I’d do an Andrighetto-Kassian swap but I don’t know that the Oilers would. Chia brought him in and gave him a three year deal and he’s gotten 2.5 more minutes a game under Hitchcock.
