This team as it stands will be life and death to survive but I assume Austrian fans know that anyway. Many of their best missing or injured.

Also wondering if Rasmus Tirronen will be an option next year. He's not a kid but he'd be their best option in goal. This group is so mediocre.

They will have a few more. Maybe Rossi comes over. Kasper, Reinbacher, Rohrer, Nickl, Ganahl, Raffl, Haudum, Schneider?

5-2 loss to Slovenia in a pre-tourmament match. How many of the players in that lineup will be in the final roster in Prague?

Is that a sign of Slovenia having a strong squad heading into the D1A tournament or Austria facing an uphill climb in Prague.

and 0-6 the day after!

Does generally look like Slovenia have been preparing well though, they also beat Italy twice in warm-ups

lineups for the game on the 12th here for those curious ^
Looks like an all or nearly-all domestic based squad fro Austria, so would take this result with a heavy pinch of salt still

Just saw parts of the games against Slovenia, but apparently they were pretty horrendous from our team. Even Roger Bader seemed a bit baffled afterward.

Nonetheless, one shouldn't be too worried yet. Our WC roster will look completely different to the current one, as pretty much half our team is a mix of KAC and Red Bull Salzburg players, which are going to play game 7 in the league finals tomorrow.

I'd guess that 5 to 7 players from the roster right now (goalies not counted) will be going to Prague. For sure Heinrich, Bernd Wolf, Baumgartner and Zwerger. Chances do have Zündel, Brunner, Wimmer, Peeters, Feldner, Romig and Neubauer I'd say. I'm also impressed with Scherzer, but maybe it's a bit early for him.

From our players in North America Rossi already declared his participation. Hopefully Reinbacher is available too (looking good right now). Kasper and Nickl are likely unavailable.

Rohrer and Michael Raffl battling in the Swiss final right now. Rohrer will probably join the team afterward, Raffl probably not (already mentioned something like that in an interview). Komarek once again isn't an option.

Biggest concern this year (and probably more years to come) is our goaltending, as Starkbaum retired last summer. Madlener and Kickert will be battling for the #1 job. I'd say Kickert is a bit better, but didn't play that much in Salzburg and also apparently has some troubles with Bader (don't know, if it's true). Madlener played a pretty solid season for the Pioneers Vorarlberg and really was Austrians only #1 goalie in the league, so maybe he has a slight advantage.

I'll definitely keep my expectations a bit lower than last year. But I'm of the opinion, that our team shouldn't be relegated, when Great Britain is in the same group. Our progression in the last couple of years simple was too good (besides the goalies).

Why‘s komarek not participating all these years?

Why‘s komarek not participating all these years?
"Family is bigger" was the headline of the interview, in which he explained his absence: Komarek: "Will nicht sagen, dass ich nicht mehr für ÖEHV spiele"
Komarek said, that as long as he's playing in Sweden, he won't be participating, because he doesn't want to be separated from his family for so long after a full season. But he still hasn't officially retired from the national team (like Fabio Hofer for example). So there's still hope for future tournaments.

According to this article, David Reinbacher will join the team in the last week of preparation (before the Canada game). This would be a huge boost, as it was far from sure after he missed the last game for Laval because of a minor injury.

Seems like Reinbacher has to undergo a surgery. So no WC for him. :(
Nickl advanced to the next round of the ECHL playoffs with the Wheeling Nailers. This pretty much means, that he won't join either.

Line-up vs. Team Canada yesterday:

Heinrich - Zündel
Unterweger - Maier
Wolf - Strong
Stapelfeldt - Brunner

Th. Raffl - Nissner - Schneider
Haudum - Rossi - Rohrer
Zwerger - Baumgartner - M. Huber
Ganahl/P. Huber - Wukovits - Thaler

This will likely be the opening day line-up against Denmark. Despite missing Kasper, Michael Raffl and Komarek our forward group should be fine. I'm pretty curious how the Haudum - Rossi - Rohrer line will perform.

In the defense there still hope for Nickl, as his Wheeling Nailers are behind 0:2 in the series against Toledo. Bader and his staff will likely activate 20 skaters for the first game against Denmark and keep two spots open.

Hoping for a result against Norway or Switzerland, expecting one against GB (although they’ll have to be much better than the last time they met). Everything else is a prayer unless maybe we can get in Czechia’s head.

Hoping for a result against Norway or Switzerland, expecting one against GB (although they’ll have to be much better than the last time they met). Everything else is a prayer unless maybe we can get in Czechia’s head.
You don't think you're more likely to give Denmark a game than Norway or the Swiss?

Austria almost always performs well against Switzerland. I believe they’ve beaten us once in regulation since like 2000. With Norway they’re just much closer to our level than Denmark.

Fair, just thought perusing the rosters the Danes are a bit weaker than say last year, and Norway a little stronger, so I was predicting a tight game between you and Denmark - we'll see soon enough!

I think the 3-2 OT win vs. Austria was the last time Switzerland lost a point vs. a slightly weaker opponent (not counting Germany and Latvia as slightly weaker because they are not).
